Because next council term should start on 1 August. And if anti doesn't provide the algorithm, I'll be counting the votes. We could delay the start of next term by a couple of days, but I see no need as we have had more than enough time to vote.

for convience I was thinking this was gonna be a lot worse, usually email confirmation stuff doesn't settle well with me for whatever reasons (IE dont get the email for a long time or never, can't remember email password, confirm it but the confirmation doesn't go through) typically this kind of stuff only works after a very long time for me but this time it went smootly and once I actually got to the voting part I liked how we could list the applicants in order of preference all the way out +rep

The algorithm shouldn't be too hard to make. Each position grants a certain amount of points: the 10th position would grant 10 points, the 9th 9, the 8th 8 and so on. The 8 people with the lowest score would be the elected ones.

or the opposite: the 10th position would get 1 point 9th 2 points 8th 3 points and so on. The 8 people with the highest score would be the elected ones. Do this if you prefer soccer over golf

The votes don't count as points in a Single transferable vote method of vote tallying.  >.<  The methods you've both described for vote counting is something else entirely.  Each vote, no matter your order, counts as one vote/point/mark/thing and the order determines how they stack up - each stacking as one unit/vote.
