I have reasons not to repeat all, but I can give you one in advance.

Simon died during the story.

Before Alfred opened the office door, only Simon, a witch or somebody who didn't harm Simon could lock the office door from the inside without a key.

The murderer and another person (let's call him person X) entered the Simon's office by unlocking it with a key, person X locked the room from the inside (but leaving the key outside the room), the murderer killed Simon, person X unlocked the door, they both went out, closed the door, then locked the door from the outside. The actual key never entered the room though.

Before Alfred opened the door for you, no more than one person entered Simon's office through the office door if we don't count Simon himself.

Simon killed himself via any weapon or non-magical means. The door was locked this whole time.

Possibly, Simon killed himself due to the financial disasters that were coming upon him after potential fraud/embezzlement/laundering schemes had come to light, and thus was a catalyst in this situation. The murderer may have convinced Simon to kill himself, or else Simon would have gone to jail/worse for his crimes as the apparently landlord.

These backstories are fun to read. I encourage others too to find out the motives of the characters.

The body inside the room is not actually Simon's but someone else made to look like Simon. Simon locked the door from the inside, killed the person in the room, then unlocked the door from the inside again. Someone else, say Alfred, locked the room with a masterkey. The person who locked the door then killed Simon later on.
