Believing that Lucy was dead, Charlie locked himself in Lucy's room using the master key.  Lucy used her own key to enter the room, killed Charlie, and took the master key.

After the moment where you believed Lucy died, her room key did not leave the room.

After Charlie locked himself inside his room, Lucy used another key to unlock and lock Charlie's room to get in and get out, because there were multiple keys to his room from the beginning.

Besides the master key, there was only one key to the room where Charlie was.

I think I found a paradox. Let's have a look at these 3 red truths:

A, Lucy did not use any secret passage before throwing the key under the basement door.

B, After locking the door to Howard's room from the inside, Lucy left Howard's room through a secret passage.

C, The master key did not leave Howard's possession until after his death.

Truth A implies that Lucy only used a secret passage after she gave us the masterkey under the basement door.
Truth C implies that Lucy could only take the masterkey after she "killed" Howard inside Howard's room.
Truth B implies that Lucy only used the secret passage after she took the masterkey.

Putting these together, the order of the events can only be the following:
Kill Howard --> Take his masterkey --> Throw masterkey under basement door --> Use secret passage to exit Howard's room

As you can see, Lucy couldn't throw the masterkey under the basement door before she even exited Howard's room, unless the basement was inside Howard's room, which would be a totally good solution, knowing the nature of the event...

BUT!



Here is the slice of evidence that completes my reasoning:
Each room is completely seperate. It is not the case that one room is inside another.

After Bill left the hotel, the group split up for some reason. At some point, Howard ended up in his own room behind the reception.
Lucy went in Howard's open door, then forced Howard to commit suicide. After Howard was dead, Lucy took the masterkey from him, she went out the open door and headed to the basement where she threw the key under the door.

At this point, Charlie may have noticed the dead body in Howard's room, because he fled in a random hotel room in panic, locking himself inside.
When Lucy came back, she locked Howard's room from the inside with a key that is not the masterkey. Lucy left the key in the room and escaped the room by using a secret passage.

Possibly Charlie only took his turn after Howard, but even if not, that's not yet related to my blue truths.

This does not provide an answer to any mystery in the original story, and therefore I will not answer it. You are mostly correct though.

And I will also say this: The exact order of how Lucy did things may or may not be important to how Charlie was killed.

Let's get right to the point then!

When Bill arrived back with the policemen, Charlie was still alive, locked in a hotel room. When the policemen took me (the protagonist) away from the scene, Bill found Charlie and Charlie let Bill in the room where he was inside. There Bill killed Charlie and went out the door, closing it from the outside with the masterkey that he somehow took from me (the protagonist).

If not, then alternatively,

Charlie was killed by an animal that was hiding inside the room he was hidden. The animal was still in the room when the policemen arrived.

Charlie was not killed by an animal (Humans are not considered animals in this context).

Lucy had a partner who was hiding in the room all the time where Charlie locked himself inside. He/she got out from his/her hiding place and killed Charlie. After the murder, he/she hid back and waited until the door was opened again and it was safe to leave.

If not, then alternatively:

There was a hidden passage leading to the room where Charlie was hiding and Lucy entered and exited through there after she threw the masterkey under the basement door.
