There was someone else in the hotel which was not mentionned in the story. It is not a guest, nor someone the owner knew was actually there. That person threw the key under the basement door.

Re-read the lore. During the story, the person locked in the basement is the reader. I, the reader, when I use "I" am referring to the person who got locked in the basement. Since it was howard I killed, he had the master key. I locked howards room, from the inside, and went out the secret passage.

I might be a real dumb ass and missed a red truth, but fippe says window can only be locked from the inside, but i do not see that the window is actually locked.

It is impossible for someone not mentioned in the story to throw the key under the basement door.

Oh, you actually meant for that to be 'you' in he story? Well then there are these old truths:
It is forbidden for the detective to be the culprit.
In this game, you qualify as 'the detective'.

Howard died third with the help of Charlie and tying a rope around his neck. Charlie told him: "If you don't kill yourself, I'll kill you and your family."
Since it was howard Charlie killed, he got the master key. Charlie locked howards room, from the inside, and went out the secret passage.

Unknown person number 1, threatened to kill Howard, unless he hung himself. Then used Secret Passage number 3, to sneak out of the room unnoticed.

Now, it seems I have been an idiot and unfortunately made a mistake. Allow me therefore to provide the following clarification/add-on to a previous red truth:
During the time of Lucy's murder, Howard was together with Charlie and Bill the whole time.
 - This refers to the time you believe Lucy was murdered in the story.


Now to destroy the latest blue truths.
It was a human who threw the key under the basement door.
Charlie was not directly involved in Howard's death.
It is impossible for someone not mentioned in the story to be directly involved in Howard's death.

Howard's killer tied him up and killed him by hanging him by physical force, as opposed to by coercion.
