The brush was thick, but not as bad as previous assignments.

"10-20, Solar?"

Solaris swiftly pressed a button next to his headset and responded to his teammate.

"Repeating; heading northwest into the jungle. Current target on map is NO-VEM-BER. TOO. AIT." The transmission static lingered before Jonathan "Crazy J(am)" clicked his radio in response.

"10-4."

Unlike other tactical SWAT teams, the reward for this assignment was nowhere near defined; the objective was to investigate some sort of paranormal activity on this island, and potentially return any so called 'artifacts' for their employer. It was even more odd that no one had 'claimed' this island for their elemental homeland. What was going on?

A small clearing with a tiny tree stood out in the distance ahead. Solaris had worked with Jam before on minor deployments, but nothing as eccentric as this detail. The fact that they chose separate points on the map was probably a poor decision, but that's what happens when you have to rush away from oncoming boats... or pirates.

The ground was soft... too soft. And just as he took a step back towards a bulging tree root with his left foot, the ground beneath his right slid down onto a few crudely made, but still sharp spikes. He gasped, winced, and took a moment to recompose himself before radioing back Jonathan.


"10-20, Jam?"

"Scaling alongside northern wall at... ugh... KEH-BECK. TREE. What's up?"


He paused for a moment while holding down his headset button. He looked down at the minor gash on his ankle. Not too bad, but infection was an immediate concern. "Were they going to send in a med-team or E.V.A.C upon our arrival?"

A short silence was broken by a more awkward, "...n-negative."

An unlikely alliance had formed. The Librarian from the east had originally wanted to get some fresh air and explore some of the islands in the ocean for a little getaway vacation from the tedium that was his career. Unfortunately, his ocean navigation capabilities was surpassed by his own naivety of the realm's mysteries, including the Mesmers that 'requested' his help.

Sea abductions were rare; the fact that he was at the mercy of 'Sithraak' could be pretty horrifying in concept, but the deal that he and this... being made was fairly peaceful. Assist in the location of highly sought out relics for their land, and in return, he would be given an equal monetary compensation to never work again for the rest of his time in the realm. No violence was needed... although again, the unknown Mesmer wandering behind him was not comforting.


"That's not even my name by the way. Call me 'Dubs', alright Sith?"

The Mesmer shook his head after glancing back at his asymmetrical construction several meters away, emanating a soft turquoise glow and hum.

Sithraak slowly drifted to the east. Its telepathic capabilities weren't just annoying, but nearly incomprehensible to Dubs. How did a month-long 'off-the-clock pay' journey turn into... whatever this arrangement was?

I felt I should post this because Kuro suggested I post it rather than talk to him about it in PMs. I didn't want to because everything else is so cool, and he's done a brilliant job. Loving the game. Having said that:

Just a balancing issue for future reference with regards to Assassin's 'Intuition':

Why doesn't intuition give you the coordinates of the treasures in its section? feels really under-powered as you need to explore everything anyway, and it sacrifices a move, and LOTS of EP.
I imagine it is so that non-assassin team mates could have intuition used around them by their team mate to better search for Relics.
This would be ok, except that it doesn't specify whether the treasures are Relics, or Safes, or Items. So all you get is "In this 3x3 space, there are X number of... things"
I doubt there are ANY 3x3 areas with nothing in them, so you have to explore every square in that area until you chance upon all of the things you were promised. Except you have one fewer moves, and 40 fewer EP.
It feels like "Exploration sounds powerful, we should nerf it in every possible way, to the point where it's saying "In this game, with things everywhere, you have searched an area. It has things in it."
It should EITHER tell you "There is a Safe, a Relic, and 2 Items in the area" OR it should tell you "There is something in D3, D5 and E4", or it should cost far less.

To clarify, I meant in future Relic Sweeper games.
I don't generally support midgame balance changes unless it's to nerf something totally gamebreaking.
I'll ofcourse accept a buff if it's offered, but in the interest of objectivity midagame balance changes always feel unfair on someone.

Still, entering this island alone was probably not the most pragmatic of ideas; he managed to survive the several hours exploring the inside of the island, especially as he mostly played around in the ruins picking up a few eclectic treasures. But he hadn't come to face anyone yet. It was oddly quiet here after all...

Tips and General Info:
-Linkcat has gained 2 relics!
-You may name your minions. ;)
-For some Safes, you may still need to -remove- a Tree or wall in order to access the Safe in question. Even if you're on the tile, a Relic cannot be accessed if it's within a wall or tree.
-If you remain on a trap tile without moving, you'll still take damage at the end of the day.
-Some switches were already on when the game began. Some switches require a player to be 'standing' on them in order to remain on. In either case, nearby safes or environment changes are relevant to the switch's effects.

It was time to go on the offensive.

Fighting fellow barbarians, berserkers, and other brawlers was one thing, but a cowboy was a bit much. Nonetheless, Miho would not be distracted from her objective.


"What's your status Mako?", Miho screamed accidentally into the headset. Out of all the devices that survived the ocean trip over, thankfully the communications relay was still working.

"I'm encountering a strange altar in the distance, I'm procee-"

The static overwhelmed the transmission. Damn; time to focus on the real issue ahead.

As Miho leaped over the suspicious chest in the dead center of the mountain's chamber, she found herself standing right in front of the cowboy. The older man smirked, and tipped his hat. Not a good sign. Ditching the red jewelry, Miho started running to the southwest, only for the other fighter to chase after, intercepting her halfway towards a glowing jade object. Turning around once more, the only thing Miho felt was the sudden impact of a blow to the back, but she kept running, and snatched up the original relic she was aiming for originally, and began racing headfirst into the grass-chewing knucklehead to the southwest.

It was on.

By the way, I have a question about Shrines. If someone changes their class to Blacksmith, do they get 4 new items every time they do that? And if you change class, will your pylons, minions, closed areas, traps, curse effects and other stuff disappear or will the new class carry them over? (Trap-planting teleporting cultist with a 5x5 safe zone and 2 minions ftw)

And speaking of Pylons (and other invisible stuff), how can they be destroyed if they are invisible? Do we get notified about them if we are close enough or do we need to attack empty map tiles? (or watch the map carefully and keep an eye out on any change in Energy for Mesmers?) Also, can Pylons be placed on chests, trees or any tile types other than Empty?
