After several weeks of hunting, memorizing the stolen map, and training Shadow, Singed was rather pleased with his progress. "Shadow!" He called, "Heel." The wolf promptly came to heel, so Singed threw him a piece of meat. "Good boy," he said, "It's time we move off to hardier hunting ground, so follow." So, with Shadow on his heels, Singed made his way westward to the Pass of Anact. According to his easily acquired map, would be a richer, though more dangerous, hunting ground. Of course, that's just they way he likes them. So they set off jogging westward for another, rather uneventful, day in the mountains. As he got further west, he noticed the animals were becoming more scarce. "I hope you are as good at getting food as you are at eating it," Singed told Shadow, "because if you aren't, you are going to get hungry." To which Shadow just tilted his head, "Crazy wolf," Singed muttered, " we will see then." So with this new knowledge stored away, he spent the next two days gathering all the food he could and preserving it as best he could. Unbeknown to Singed, a great eagle had been watching his movements for the last few days. Late after the eagle learned of his general course, he returned to report to King Turgon of Gondolin. "Welcome, Scout of Thorondor, what brings you this peaceful night" King Turgon asked? "Hello, King of Gondolin, I just came to report a lone goblin making his way west across Ered Gorgoroth, I don't know what this portrays, since goblins almost never travel alone. Though, if this one is a scout, he is doing a horrible job of covering his tracks. Shall I have him killed? Or would you rather me capture him for questioning," asked the scout. "Nay, don't kill him. Keep an eye on him and make sure he doesnt hurt anyone. Though, if he is going through Ered Gorgoroth, there won't be many on the list to protect, and if he does somehow survive, we could be ridden of several pests."
