True.  But Vampire already has to take a level to get 100% healing, and it has to take a level to become a mutation before it can get steal as an ability, otherwise you have to take it as a spell, which is no fun =(

Leveling explained!

Every level you get a level point.  They may be spent in one of four ways.
For 1 level point, you may take a passive ability.  Water breathing, fireproof, airbourne, immune to poison, night vision, whatever.
For 1 level point, you may upgrade an ability.  Every ability has 1-4 upgrades to it.  Vampire can upgrade healing due to damage.  The EXCEPTION to this rule is poison/alchemy, which are learned through more active abilities.
For 2 level points, you may learn a spell from the game.  Like in game, each spell gets 6 uses per day.
For 2 level points, you may learn an active ability.  You may NOT have two active abilities.  Some abilities require other active abilities.

List of all abilities and what they do:
Mage abilities are:

Deja Vu.  You summon illusion copies of yourself, one per upgrade.  Other upgrades include the ability to target allies, better control over illusions, and making them more opaque/useful.  (Upgrades are twin universe, fractal, and stat bonuses in intelligence, believability, and solidity)

Ignite.  You thrust an uncontrollable fireball at the opponent.  Upgrades will make it more controlled and larger.

Unstable Gas:  Release a toxin into the air, or turn the air into a toxin.  A good pick for a poison based character, or an alchemist.  Boost in size of the change for alchemy, use of gas weaponry for a poison based character.  UG can be bought in a store as well.

Devourer: You link with your opponents mind and steal their energy.  It's a visible link, they'll try and stop you.  Upgrades make the process faster, but you'd do well to learn to dodge their blows while they strike.

Stone form: Form magical armor around you/your friends.  Leveling up will allow you to give them more forms.  Good upgrades are heavy armor, basilisk blood, and burrow.

Scavenger: You may steal knowledge of the dead, upgrades allow you to steal strength.  Goes hand in hand with graveyard.

...etc...

Swift gathers his concentration and sends another fireball towards his foe....for a short moment, while the fireball is just leaving Swifts controll, the fiery ball illuminates his face, showing an evil grin.
Your character doesn't know fire lance yet.

Ok, when the time comes...this is going to need some explaining....how are we supposed to achive the "common combinations" you posted when some of them have a prerequisite of two active abilities?

The abilities in those combinations ARE the prerequisites.  For instance, you may only take aflatoxin/liquid shadow (as an active ability) if you've already taken two other poisons as active abilities.

A prerequisite is just to force you to wait before you can grab certain OP abilities.  You can't take aflatoxin or liquid shadow until at least level seven, just like you can't take steal as an active ability until level four (level 2 gives you the mutation, level four gives you the ability)

I'm just making this, so there are a lot of kinks I'm working out.  When we get there, I'll explain what I have, but that will be largely based upon what in game stuff I see.  (immune as a passive ability was added due to the devastating nature of poisons DPT, just like fireproof is there to counter the DPT from being on fire.)

OK, define "active ability". I thought your whole list of things on page 5 were all active abilities, but(minus aflatoxin and other things that have a stated requirement) I also thought that we could have multiple abilities off of that list? I guess to get more specific, say when I hit level three, and want another ability off of that list. May I get momentum or regeneration(which I'll have some questions about, later) and still use lycanthrope?

By the way, who are we still waiting for on this round of turns?

Ability is any move that a creature in game uses.  You may have those three.

Also, no clue.  Let me check.

"Damn amateurs." Thrice shakes his head in annoyance at the brash actions of John and Korugar, sliding out three more Senbon and tossing them at the bears other shoulder, hoping to avoid the two melee combatants.
Aira saw Swift send a fireball towards the creature "I want in" he said. Suddenly he stung and launched his last poison arrow through the fireball. The fireball ignited the poison so now the creature had a poisonus, burning arrow to deal with along with the various other things attacking it.
OOC: Ok, not sure if you were telling me what would happen if I chose that path of action, or if you were counting that as my action. If you were just telling me, then switch my move to shooting another arrow(aiming for his face), please.
