Veneficus concentrated, then fired a strange, glowing magical bolt into the unknown. Every second, it made a click noise. The noises grew fainter and fainter until they disappeared. "Nothing that way, I think..." Veneficus said, firing another Clicker bolt after turning towards the right. The bolt careened off into the distance, making a click every second. All of a sudden, everything fell silent again.

Veneficus turned to face Heimdall. There's something there!

Heimdall responded. But what?

Whatever it is... I'll deal with it. Veneficus fired a shadow bolt towards its direction. The shadow bolt made contact with something and exploded. A groan rang through the air, but it came from Veneficus. He doubled over in pain and vomited.

"Veneficus!" Heimdall rushed over to the magician, who was on all fours. He seemed quite pale. "I... I don't feel so well," he said, then vomited again. Heimdall ran forwards as much as he dared, the Photon following him overhead. Heimdall saw what was on the ground.

Uh oh. It was a small, blue sphere covered all over with nubs of the same color. Heimdall recognized it immediately. A Virus. Viruses were strange creatures of Death that, when distressed, could cause sickness and even death. Veneficus probably hit it with his black bolt and had caused himself to be sick. Heimdall ran back to him immediately, thinking, But why are the Viruses here? Again... there is another force somewhere here, controlling these...

Veneficus was standing up and seemed a little less pale. "What was that?" he croaked.

"A Virus," Heimdall said. "Now, let's make sure not to..."

Heimdall stopped. Veneficus stopped, also. Around them floated dozens of Viruses. Above them, to the left, to the right, and behind them, Viruses and their larger and stronger cousins - Retroviruses - floated silently. They rolled through the air towards the three adventurers.

Heimdall gulped. I think my Quintessence just ran out.

Can we at least get an agreement on how powerful the Masters are? I think since they are the central, vital characters of this RPG, and the fate of the world depends on them, they should be more powerful than False Gods when they attain their full powers, which won't happen until near the end of our current Void saga.

Zanzarino + Masters = Void + False Gods

More or less. Left side is slightly stronger.

And because Zanzarino is slightly weaker than the Void, it follows that the Masters must be slightly stronger than the False Gods in order to retain an equilibrium. But only in their full power, I guess, like you stated.

I suppose I can handle that explanation, seeing as how there are always FGs, and only Masters when they're needed. I guess that works.

All right, now for the "higher realms". Either we have no higher realms at all, or we have higher realms for all the elements.

http://www.kongregate.com/forums/22/topics/74573
In the above story, I classified the 12 elements into three categories:

Cardinal: :time :aether :gravity :entropy
Material:  :fire :water :earth :air
Spiritual:  :light :darkness :life :death

Maybe we'll have three big higher realms, for each of those categories? The realm for the Spiritual elements would contain heaven, hell, etc. The realm for the Cardinal elements would resemble something like outer space. The realm for the Material elements would be something like the Elemental Chaos in D&D.

@Helios: When you come, please answer my questions on the last page. Thank you.

Helios, what exactly do you intend by "intervening"? The reason why I don't really like your concept of Heaven is that I don't think it has the right to "judge" the lower world. In your writing, it seems that the Angels consider everyone else to be below them.

As for power levels... IMO, Void > Zanzarino > Elemental Masters > False Gods > Higher Beings > Mortals.

To me, the Angels are nothing but immortal higher beings, along with Demons, and Reapers. And my conception of the Masters is that they are gods, whose full powers are only dwarfed by Zanzarino, and the Void. The False Gods in our lore are created to contain the Void, and their high levels of power are only the byproduct of the seal. Thus, I feel very uneasy when there is a group of people who could seemingly pwn all the Masters and FGs with little or no effort.

Also, does Heaven only represent Light and Hell only represent Darkness? If so, then there is a severe unbalance of the elements, since the 12 elements are supposed to be equal to each other. And that's another reason why I feel uneasy, because the concept of Heaven and Hell does not really fit Elements the Game. This RPG is based on Elements, so I feel that the RPG should resemble the game itself as much as possible.
Bloodshadow, in accordance with the disclaimer that I posted previously, the attitudes of the Angels do not necessarily reflect my own views. In fact, I have rather deliberately created and evoked an arrogant image where those characters are concerned and have noted that they are relatively ignorant of the reality beyond their borders; I have also hinted on several occasions that they held far greater power a long time ago, and are yet encountering difficulty in accepting the current status quo. But in spite of all this, if I may say something in their defence, since we are agreed that they do hold a high position on the "chart of power" nonetheless, it indicates that their high image of themselves may not be unjustified.

Furthermore, you should not be concerned with Heaven being overpowered. I have already taken steps to tone them down (for instance, passing onto the Lower plane automatically reduces them substantially) and if anything, Catyrael's concerns at the closing of my second post explicitly allude to the fact that he has a considerable amount of reserve about Elemental Masters and False Gods. On the other hand, if, as you suggest, he could actually simply "pwn all of the Masters and FGs with little or no effort", he would have no reason to experience the slightest modicum of fear; instead, he probably would have treated the entire affair not unlike attending an afternoon tea party, lawn bowling included. In effect, I imply that he acknowledges their potentially very vast amount of power, and in no way have I attempted to render Heaven supreme over everything.

Where elemental balance is concerned, since Heaven is ultimately supposed to act for the benefit of the Lower World in general with good intentions and without bias (yes, Darkness is considered as a traditional enemy, but only by antiquated xenophobes whose influence was clearly not sufficient to even prevent Heaven from intervening in a war between Darkness and Death with the ultimate goal of keeping the peace and preventing loss of life, even if they are Darkness and Death-affiliated creatures, I do not believe that the aforementioned balance has been disrupted. However, if you personally still feel particularly strongly about this, the idea that you suggested about creating a classification of three higher realms to correspond to each "group" of elements might work, though I question its necessity.

Finally, it is my understanding that, as Purity has noted, that regardless, the current lore already accepts the presence of (a rather judgmental) Heaven anyway, and I too have been considering the potential of developing the story in conjunction with Xanriel.

You have no idea how awesome that is, given the thought I just had.

I would also like to develop the heaven aspect as well, maybe as a side story, or a later campaign even.
Clearly, Xanriel is something else all together, so unlike any of the other angels, and obviously that will have to be addressed when Xanriel meets your angels.

More over, and this is just a personal idea, i'd like to actually have Xanriel accused of something and taken in by the council to be judged. My idea was actually to have the Archangel of War come and scoop him up, as he seems to be one of your Xenophobes, and have said archangel make Xanriel stand trial for the atrocities he committed as Exriel, his fallen self. Generally the Fallen Angels would just be abhorred and dismissed, but Xanriel came back to the side of light, I don't think it should be that easy.

Another thought was that, now that he's an immortal angel again, he really should have taken up his old position as Judgment, but he chose not to. Seeing as how your main is the Archangel of Justice, perhaps Xanriel used to work under him, and now Catyrael might be of the opinion that Xanriel should submit to him and rejoin the Sword of Justice?

The thing is, Heaven is associated with Light. Light is only one of the 12 elements, thus it has no rights to "judge" beings affiliated with the other elements. If this is only the view of your Angels and not yourself, then I, as Jonathan Haemos Shade, and as Bloodshadow the Master of Darkness, will personally make sure that they understand their place in the power echelon. Perhaps Jonathan could have an epic battle with your most xenophobic Angels (excluding Catyrael, of course, since we deliberately avoid direct conflict between players), in which he reveals his second dragon form (first dragon form is 50% full Master power, second is 62.5%); it seems to me that somebody needs to teach those Angels a lesson.
Oh, yes! Xanriel could be captured by Heaven to be judged, and all of us can go there to rescue him. All right then, this can be another arc in our storyline.

However, I still feel very uneasy about Light and Darkness being the only elements with their respective higher realms. Elemental equality should be valued above all things, since it is essential in Elements the Game itself.

Editing in progress.

The mist was becoming thicker and thicker. Jonathan, even with his preternatural senses, was beginning to have trouble seeing twenty meters in front of himself. Not only that, but the mist was poisonous, a natural defense mechanism of the Dead Marsh. A normal human inhaling this miasma would die within a day if no treatments were given, and it would even make Vampires sick for at least an hour. A swirling sheen of darkness surrounded Jonathan, Nyxia and Kain, filtering the toxins out of the air they breathed.

The trails in the Dead Marsh were very narrow. The Legion of Darkness was forced to compress itself into a long and thin line, a very strategically weak formation; cutting a portion of the army off from the rest of the troops would be all too easy. To make matters worse, the narrow paths seemed to split into three random branches every five steps Jonathan took. The Dead Marsh was a vast and perplexing maze, and with a growing sense of dread Jonathan was beginning to realize that they were hopelessly lost in the Marsh's labyrinthine depths.

As the leader of the Legion of Darkness, Jonathan and his trio was at the forefront of the army, venturing into the dreadful unknown. But it seemed that they had gone too far ahead. Under the obscuring layers of noxious mist, Jonathan could no longer detect the presence of his fellow soldiers. And, with an alarming jolt, Jonathan realized that he could no longer sense Heimdall, Xanriel, Max, and his other comrades.

Nyxia seemed to read Jonathan's mind. "We're lost," she said.

"Nice work leading the army," Kain said to Jonathan, sarcastically.

Jonathan glared at him. "Fighting among ourselves accomplishes nothing," he said. "We need to find our comrades, fast. We certainly do not want to be lost in this place."

Jonathan was going to spread out his mind to look for any sign of life, when his ever-sensitive ears heard a light sound from behind him; it was the sound of rustling leaves when someone brushed against them. Instantly, Jonathan was on full alert, as he prepared to intercept the attack from the unseen enemy. Unconsciously, Jonathan's trio shifted positions until they stood back to back, minimizing their blind spots.

Suddenly, something hurtled out from the gnarled and diseased tree branches toward Nyxia - a bolt of pestilent Death energy. Immediately Nyxia launched a bolt of Darkness, and the two bolts collided in mid-air, dissipating into nothing. A split second later, hundreds of bolts of poison, acid, decay, and necromantic energy shot out from the shadows like a hailstorm, a barrage of virulent energies that would have devastated the trio if not for the barrier of Darkness that instantly sprang to life around them. Instantly, Jonathan, Nyxia and Kain launched three attacks in the exact same moment:

"Soul Harvest!"

"Dream Shatter!"

"Blood Sunder!"

I perceive your suggestions to be awesome ideas. It would indeed be very nice for some xenophobic angels (especially Emparael, War) to interfere and antagonise. In the trial, perhaps Catyrael might even act as your defence counsel ;)

I have also been pondering as to the exact nature of the relationship between Catyrael and Xanriel; should it be Catyrael viewing himself as indisputably superior or should it be from the "old friends" angle? In fact, I am sure the Archangel of Justice would have been rather well acquainted with Xanriel (especially being the son of Miracle) during the latter's original time in Heaven. We should decide as to what we would favour in terms of this.

I think Catyrael and Xanriel should be "old friends". We need to have something like the good cop and bad cop when Xanriel was judged.

I request a fight against Emparael, if he is the most xenophobic of all your Angels. Also, what do you think about the party going to Heaven to rescue Xanriel? During that arc, Sirenes could also have her half-Angelic powers awakened.
