Their group had separated to navigate the ever-shrinking and nearly nonexistant paths that wove into the Dead Forest, and, getting weary after moving in a complete circle twice, Dorfl simply walked straight into the next tree, and it splintered and fell to the ground. He didn't even flinch.

He had paired up with Vaxyos to get through the forest, curious about the other golem and his motives. When he smashed though, the trees, his companion followed suit, and Dorfl decided to confide in him his past, which was fairly uneventful in his opinion. He only really did it to get Vaxyos to speak about his, but also because he felt he had to pass the time, simply walking though a forest like a herd of armor-plated elephants with sight disorders barely counted as something to do.

"So, where do you come from?" He asked of Vaxyos.

No reply.

"Ah, well, I see. Maybe it'll help if I tell you something of myself?"

Still no response from the other.

"Well, there's not much too it really. It's probably best if I start as far as I can remember," he began, looking upwards amiably, lost in thought as he stepped over the remains of another unfortunate tree. "I was created in the Gravity Basin, by humans, my only purpose to work. I wasn't paid, and I got no breaks, but it didn't really matter to me, I could easily keep up with my workload and I'd never really wanted anything else. One day, in the manner of working golems, I was being sold by a master who was heavily in debt and had to sell all of his possessions. At the market, I was bought by a humble priest who took me back to his church, which was in a terrible state of disrepair, and had me help him clean it, although I did most of the work because he was very old. Never figured out his exact age though, but it must have been over ninety. Anyways, once the church had been cleaned up and reopened, he would talk with me after hours, when all the people were gone," He continued, completely unaware of the gigantic tree he had just pounded into the dust with one foot.

"He taught me things, but mostly I figured it out for myself, after hearing a bit of the basics of reliion and philosophy from him. I made my own opinions, and we would debate over them. It was fun, or at least fun to me, since I'd never done anything but work in my life. One day, while he was checking my chem, that's the magic scroll inside work golems' heads, a Graviton Mercenary came in and killed him, and then took what little money was in his donations box. He took the damn donations box. I shouldn't have been able to move or do anything, since I didn't have my chem, but somehow I did. I reached up, and threw him into the far wall. The human spinal cord can be pretty flimsy at times like that, you know," he added, oblivious to the poison gas that was surrounding them, since he and other golems had no need for oxygen.

OOC:That'll be it for today, I guess I'll finish it tomorrow.

I ask nothing of humanity but fairness in all things, but I do not expect even that.

To tell the truth, I'm also kinda getting tired of those big wars. Yes indeed, we can have smaller major encounters that involve more character interactions. The landscape in the Dead Marsh are not suitable for big wars anyways.

I say that while exploring the Marsh, we somehow get separated, maybe into small groups of two or three. We can probably beat anything if we gang up together, so splitting up might make things more interesting.

Who wants to go with Jonathan? If nobody, then Jonathan's small group will consist of himself, Nyxia and Kain. After a bit of exploring Jonathan's group will encounter a mob of False Vampires led by Mavros.

And while we're at it... Morte's army is preparing for an ambush. They'll attack once we're separated from each other.

After beating Mavros, just for the sake of the story, I think Jonathan and Xanriel should go together on a side quest where they encounter Necrosis. They'll both get the "WTF" reaction.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

OOC: During my brief absence, I have been pondering as to the exact angle from which I should approach this story. I have chosen to do something ressembling a Heaven's perspective on the whole matter, provided it is not objected to. I realise that we already have an important angelic character; to compensate, I will attempt to create something very different. I also understand that the Master of Life has been conspicuously absent; if convenient and acceptable, it is possible that I can fill the spot.

Prologue
IC: "The skirmish between Death and Darkness is troubling, at worst, but is none of our concern," declaimed Argerael, Archangel of Fate, "For the millenia that we have watched over the Lower World, the law as decreed by the Mantle has ever been to only intervene in the cases of gravest need. This small battle does not satisfy the ancient requirements."

"Even if it is clearly one of the largest battles of the Past Age to occur in the Lower World? Argerael, in times like these, none of us, even in Heaven, can proclaim with certainty as to whether an ambiguous mandate has been satisfied or not. Especially with the presence of the Elemental Masters, I would rather perceive this event to be significant enough to be worthy of our attention," replied Arcterael, Archangel of Hope.

"Arcterael, you are cleared biased towards intervention, and have displayed such subjective prejudices on many an occasion since the Elder Time," Argerael said patronisingly.

"You accuse me of bias, and yet you are a hypocrite. And in the case that we are both biased, mercy must take precedence over harshness."

"Such talk will not move us towards any form of progress," interceded Soliraelis, Archangel of Light, and de facto chief Archangel of the Council and of the Upper Realm, "The question of intervention should be put to a vote before the Council."

"Then my vote is against it," said Argerael.

"My stance is in support of intervention," said Arcterael.

"I concur with Arcterael's position on this occasion. Non-action will only result in tragic and needless deaths. In fact, though you, Argerael, may feel legally justified in arguing against action, the Mantle lays upon us a moral obligation to intervene when we have the power to do so," pronounced Lumaeliel, Archangel of Mercy.

"However, I, for one, fail to understand why we are even having this discussion. If Darkness and Death, our traditional enemies, are feuding amongst themselves, it would definitely be in our strategic interest to allow them to bleed each other dry," said Emparael, Archangel of War, "Upon that basis, I vote against a clearly non-strategic intervention. However, I am curious as to the following: Soliraelis, what is your thought on the matter?"

"The happenings of the Lower World truly concern me not. I have long ceased to participate actively in that domain, and for 2000 years, have established precedents delegating responsibility in that province to the rest of you, a stance I have no intention to abandon now. Whether we intervene or not matters not to me in the slightest. I abstain."

"Fortunately, there are some of us upon this Council who hold more compassion and caring for the denizens of the realm below. I truly cannot understand those who would not support this peacekeeping operation; at the very least, their moral compasses seem questionable. I decidedly stand in support of intervention," said Sofirael, Archangel of Love.

"Sofirael, the matters of this Realm are enough to concern me without my having to become implicated with any of the earth beneath us. However, it would seem that the decisive vote now rests with Catyrael," said Soliraelis in reply.

Catyrael paused for many minutes before speaking. He could either pass the issue on intervention with a decisive four-to-two, or he could tie the issue, which would effectively suspend it for twenty-eight days until another round of discussion would be held. In the latter case, the intervention debate would probably have become completely irrelevant when discourse was to resume after twenty-eight days, but Catyrael knew that Argarael held enough influence to force his own way, and that somehow, mysteriously, tied issues have managed to disappear altogether from the Council's agenda long before the second round.

"It is my firm belief that when our purpose of safeguarding the inhabitants of the land below was conceived, we were meant to protect them, not only from Hell's Darkness, but from themselves. If they themselves are endangering each other, it is only just that we intervene to put an end to that. I am in favour," concluded the Archangel of Justice.

Silence reigned until Soliraelis spoke again.

"It is decided. Heaven will dispatch an expeditionary force to the realm below."

However, not all managed to maintain a calm composure regarding the outcome.

"This is outrageous. The very notion that you would want to do something to benefit our enemies is outrageous. So the Council decides to intervene. Fine, but it is something which I will not endorse; not a single angel of the Army will participate," said Emparael.

"Do not be so contrary; how can we intervene, or do anything without the Army?" asked Arcterael.

"No military participation is mandatory; you have your intervention, but I will see to it that you will literally not have an army to back it. I refuse to allow angelic soldiers to fight in a ridiculous little thing which will actually benefit Darkness and Death."

But Catyrael smiled. "We will not need the Army. If Heaven's military is not going, then the Sword of Justice shall suffice to provide the force of the intervention. Besides, the expeditionary force needs a commander; I am willing to lead this little adventure to Earth."

Another period of silence. Most of the Archangels were shocked by this bold, unprecedented statement, and by a leading Council member no less. Not since the Third Lower War has a Greater Archangel personally led a mission to Earth.

Emparael was the first to recover.

"Your little group is not much more than a civil police force. It certainly has no mandate for war and combat."

"Ah, but not much more than a civil police force is required, is that not so? After all, this is only a peacekeeping operation, a police action, as far as we are concerned."

"Are you completely certain about this, Catyrael?" asked Soliraelis.

"I am completely certain."

"So it is decided then. The Sword of Justice is to effect Heaven's intervention and to dispense her will as you see fit. You must attempt to minimise the number of innocent casualties incurred. If you should encounter any agents of evil, you are authorised to eliminate them immediately. In the name of High Heaven, go forth!"

***
Notes:

1) Yes, Heaven remains incredibly xenophobic against Darkness and Death affiliated beings. It is an antiquated attitude, but there are still only few reformists who see it that way.

2) Yes, Heaven is actually aware of fewer things than you might think. In fact, for many of the details, the Council actually relies on Messenger Angels, and that system of communication can require a long time for messeges to be conveyed from the Lower to the Upper World, which may explain their relative ignorance.

***
Now, a character profile:

Character Name: Catyrael

Element: :light

Brief Description: Catyrael is a powerful Archangel of the Greater class with a seat on the Council itself. Among his own, he is relatively tall, and thus will appear even more so to most inhabitants of the Lower World. In his usual form, a white/golden light radiates from his body, which features two magnificent long white wings. However, on a voluntary basis, whether for concealment or for facilitating encounters with those who are less inclined to stare at a constant brilliance, he can dim this light.

However, it is also well known to the winged creatures of Heaven that crossing into the Lower World requires crossing a distinct frontier in space onto a different plane altogether. Doing so usually lessens angelic power substantially. While they remain very considerable, they cannot be "gods" on the Lower Plane and thus become much more vulnerable.

(Brief) Story: Born in Heaven as one of the earlier generations of angels, Catyrael always showed an inclination to see that justice was effected wherever he went. He is no stranger to combat, and it is rumoured that he was among those who ventured with the legendary Chief Archangel Solraegiel, crafter of the original Morning Glory, on the daring intervention during the Second Infernal War deep into Darkness territory. His eventual promotion to Archangel of Justice is thus fitting.

Skills:

1) Mandate of Heaven (Catyrael provides a temporary boost in strength, defence and morale to himself and all allies)

2) Elbereth (The application of this skill can be seen by a sudden brilliant glow emanating from Catyrael's sword, greatly enhancing its potency as a weapon, especially against the unholy. It is useful to light the way in the darkness.)

3) Divine Intervention (Catyrael calls upon the truly divine to assist him in battle. A certain extent of protection is afforded him and surrounding allies.)

4) Light of Heaven (Catyrael has the ability to heal many ills with Heaven's pure Light. On rare occasions, the Light of Heaven may also be used offensively against the unholy, who cannot stand its presence.)

5) Wrath of Heaven (Temporarily restores Catyrael to something closer to his true heavenly form. In this state, he becomes near invincible for a few minutes. Unfortunately, this skill is so energy-consuming that even an Archangel must rest immediately after for a short time (hours) post-usage. Hence, this skill is usually reserved for the most dire of circumstances.

*Note: The application of any of these skills will require varying amounts of energy from Catyrael in his Lower World form, especially Wrath of Heaven.

I thought the Morning Glory was forged by Chamuel, the original Master of Light.

Second, your prologue does not really sound fitting to our current story. In our current lore, Zanzarino is the highest God, and below Him are the Elemental Masters. There is no distinction between the "higher" and "lower" world, and there is no such thing as a supreme society (Heaven) above that judges all things. Right now the World of Elements is ruled by the False Gods, so I don't think something like Heaven would go along well with our story; and Light is only one of the twelve elements, so I don't think it has any rights to form some sort of "higher power" that is above mortal beings.

If you really want to go ahead with your current storyline, know this: The Elemental Masters are of higher power than Heaven; if one of your Archangels get into an all-out fight with a Master, I expect the Master to win. And despite how xenophobic Heaven is toward Darkness, Darkness is not evil. The alignments of the elements only depend on their users.

But don't be discouraged, though. You have excellent writing skills, and I'm sure you'll be a valuable player in this RPG.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

OOC: Ok, I'm patnered with another Golem? No problem, and Morte's soldiers and trying to find us and kill us? Helios, I think Life would be a good choice for you. Light is already taken and we need a Life Master. Still, you could be Light if you want. And Jonathan, Sekhor and Chamuel are the only people who attained their Master form right?

I have been thinking about Vaxyos's Master Form. How about a creature made out of Fire? Touch him, you get burned. If you don't get burned, you still can't hit him since he has no solid form, just like Fire. If he hits you, either you are broken to bits, burned to death or slowly turned to Ash. Good or Overpowered?

_________________________________________________________________

InC: Vaxyos keeps walking on the dense, poisonous forest. A Golem walks with him, telling him of his past. Vaxyos listens silently, and when the Golem is finished, he says "Mighty good story there lad. So how did you get into this group? You accidently found these guys walking and you joined them without a reason? Or were you just strolling around the Basin and found these guys by chance?". Vaxyos was questioning him to get him irritated. The Golem did not answer. Vaxyos kept walking, waiting for an answer.

The venomous fumes did not affect him. He wasn't sure about the other Golem, but he didn't care of it. After hours of silence, Vaxyos just wanted to turn into a Phoenix and fly away from that weird Golem. But that would mean endangering the Golem, since hordees of undead creatures were looking for us in the forest. So Vaxyos just keeps on going...and...going through the forest.

MaX felt like skipping and hopping, but the shallow muck all around kept him at bay. Instead he carefully walked side-by-side with his turquoise co-master, with full knowledge of the razor sharp blades practically in every joint of his friend. "So, Heimdall, what exactly is our strategy? There has to be something we ought to know about where we're going and who we're dealing with."

Off to the Ulitharid's other side, the elite vampire mage was eyeing them under his sweaty bangs. Don't worry, sister, we ARE allies. I have no plans of stealing your boyfriend. And, I won't click you out of existence either... twilight or eclipse notwithstanding.

Veneficus twitched a snarl before looking away. I'm not your sister. And, he's not my boyfriend.

Holding on to Heimdall's forearm, maX tried to capture the vamp's line of sight. "Haven't you ever heard of 'humor' in your city? Honestly... you people need to LIGHTEN up! hahahahahahaha." mAX nudged Heimdall, "Get it!? Lighten up!" and he laughed even louder, knowing full well there was nothing the vampire could do because of their allied pact. But, he also knew that he was treading on dangerous ground and that he should be making friends rather than irritating their allies.

He regained his composure, apologized to everyone in the vicinity and waited for Heimdall's answer. Seeing Heimdall was still organizing his thoughts, maX looked around for Dextre. He was trailing a few meters behind trying to be inconspicuous with the local vegetation. He also noticed that tendrils of smoke was snaking on the ground. It seems there was a fog coming down on the group. Visibility has been reduced to several meters and the temperature has gone down a few notches.

Dex, come to me.

OOC: Chamuel is the name of the old Master of Light, Xanriel is the new Master of Light, he just calls upon the spirit of Chamuel when he is in his master form, essentially becoming two spirits in one body.

Chamuel did not in fact forge the first Morning Glory, he was its first Wielder, he also fought in that war.

And on another note, I personally LOVE the idea Helios, I thought it was incredibly well written and adds a whole new dimension to the RP.

@Bloodshadow: You need to stop stiffling creativity based off your own vision of the game, no one decided any of these things. I see no reason why there can't be an upper and lower realm, and in our current 'lore' there is a heaven, it's where Xanriel is from, where Miracle resides, where all the angels of the choir, those below the council, take seat. It works perfectly into Xanriel's back story actually.

As for cosmotology, I saw it as this for list of power amongst gods

Zanzarino > False Gods > (here is where I would put heaven's council, and hell's) > anyone else.

We don't have any divine powers or gifts, so we don't belong on that chart.

Strength wise, I don't think any one of us is as powerful as a false god, I'd say we're only slightly more powerful than, or as powerful as, the high council's of heaven and hell.

I think an Archangel would stand a fair shot against one of us, probably even beat one of us since they would be about as powerful, but with the knowledge of an eternity.

You can't just make all these decisions. Helios posted his view on our heaven/hell before you did, so his is the one we should go with. It happened first, and it doesn't hurt anyone's story, therefore I say it is binding.

InC:

Xanriel didn't like that he couldn't read Sirenes's mood. She seemed so out of it ever since the last battle, more so than usual. He couldn't remember much of the last bit of it, only small bits of him in the Master form, fighting. The memories were there, he just couldn't access them, as though they were someone else's memories, and he had only heard of them. His Master form always came with new-found secrets though. He was not certain that Sirenes was half-angel, and here was some powerful nymph blood making up her other half, but more potent than usual.
"I don't think you even know how powerful you are..." Xanriel frowned. Sirenes's mood was bringing him down as well, so he could tell something was seriously wrong. He hugged her tight again and gave her a kiss on the cheek, running his hands down to her sides and tickling her a little, hoping for a smile, or some kind of reaction.

[OOC] You totally could have made a half demon or something. Would have been awesome. See, if he was raised on the "middle" plain, he wouldn't have to have the evil mentality. Like... how Alex is a djinni. Theyre believed to be dark spirits and they kind of are, but they're also slightly on the neutral side. Or at least that's how I interpret them to be.

@Helios: I like the idea. Freakin love it. I was thinking just about the same thing Purity said with the heirarchy being something like Zanzarino > Masters (Master Forms) & False Gods > Heaven & Hell > Everyone else

[INC]
Sirenes is extremely ticklish. The moment Xanriel starts to tickle her she twitches, being snatched out of her own thoughts. She gasped and suddenly stopped walking, beginning to squirm. "No!" She shouts as laughter erupts from her mouth. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" She pleaded "I'll cheer up, I promise!"

Xanriel smiles, feeling happier now that she was cheering up as well. Her feelings had a stronger effect on him, he felt more empowered and her feelings also effected him more. He was glad to see her cheered up, but it wasn't enough. Putting his head on her shoulder, he whispers in her ear.
"What's wrong?"

[OOC] Memorial Day means no school, thus no access to the internet until Tuesday. Have a great weekend guys and try not to get too far ahead without me. (I don't want to have to read an entire novel when I get back lol)

[INC]
"I was just thinking about what you said earlier... About me being the Master of Water." She turned her head, glancing back at him "Do you really think it's true? I want to, but it seems really unrealistic. Most of you have had some kind of display of power, but I haven't had anything. I can't even fight that well." She chews her lip slightly, thinking more. "And what that other angel said about me being half angel." Sirenes frowned then, turning completely in his arms "You seem to know so much, but you've never told me any of this before. Why?"

Sounds good, Wardead.

Great job on that writing, Helios. It's true it doesn't fit that well, but I think it's fine because we need more content anyways and it's very nice.

Heimdall continued walking with a steady stride. It was getting colder and a thick mist blanketed the area. "Lighten up? I wish this place would lighten up. It's not better than the Kingdom of Darkness; I can't see a thing." Heimdall considered a luminosity spell, but he had no idea how to cast it. I'll try anyways, he said, smiling. I've got to get my old powers back.

He stopped walking; MaX stopped, too, beside him. Heimdall concentrated into himself, weaving his mind into the shape of the Photon, the creature that Heimdall knew generated light. He kept a mental image of a Photon floating in the air, sending golden light rays streaming off through Aether and into the physical dimension. He opened his eyes and released the energy. I'd better cast this fast; the fog is really thickening. I can't see a thing.

There was a small explosion as the energy entered the physical world. Heimdall and MaX both jumped back. I probably shouldn't have rushed that. A burning scent filled the air, but a large Photon floated above Heimdall's head, at rest.

"At least that worked," said Heimdall. Just then, he felt strangely alone. "Wait, where is everybody?" They must have left us behind when I stopped to cast the spell.

Just then, Heimdall heard a rustling behind him. He whipped around. Another rustling followed up to his right. If the Photon was not there, Heimdall knew that he would be hopelessly lost; as it was, he could at least see, but all he could see where the thin, scraggly outlines of decaying trees. This wasn't like when Veneficus had casted the Nightfall spell, because Heimdall knew for sure that creatures where out there. Now, he had no idea, and he could not risk using mental detection. There was no one else; only him and MaX.

"There's someone else out there," said Heimdall.

"Or someTHING," MaX said.

Suddenly, a pale figure stepped out. Heimdall extended an elbow blade, but the figure's face was recognizable. Speak of the devil! "Veneficus!" said Heimdall. "Good to see you!"

"You too," said Veneficus. "The rest of the soldiers went down separate paths and now we're all lost. I think Morte's army did this on purpose somehow."

"At least we're together," said MaX. Then, the second source of the rustling revealed itself - a strange, small bundle of green leaves. "Dex!" MaX said, rushing towards the Forest Spirit.

Heimdall rolled his eyes but quickly refocused. There's still someone else out there...
