Zanthos didn't die
I was only talking about the previous Master of Life, who died and reincarnated into Zanthos.
@Optimalist: Well, if you yourself are gay, then I have absolutely no problems with your character being gay.
I'm not sure if I can post a part today... I'll try.
Editing in progress... Probably.
Jonathan's eyes widened as he saw the red vapor spreading out, starting to envelop him. He sucked his breath in sharply as the gas touched his skin; apparently, the gas had the blood-draining properties of both of their swords.
Kain's form was now completely obscured by the thick blanket of blood-red mist. Like some sort of ghastly specter, the gas extended its deadly caress upon Jonathan, trying to swallow him and drain him dry. But Jonathan had already experienced this kind of battle against Mavros and Johann, where a mere touch of his opponent meant death. Concentrating his powers, Jonathan formed a thick coat of Darkness aura around himself as protection, a second before the red mist completely closed itself in on him. Like some sort of acid, the gas began eating away at Jonathan's barrier, but Jonathan was confident that he could last more than a while.
Jonathan could not see anything; his vision was a sea of swirling crimson and scarlet. He could not hear anything either, as mostly all sound was silently absorbed by the mist like water into sponge. He couldn't even smell anything, because all he could smell was the scent of blood. He tried to slash and hack at the mist, but it had no effect at all.
I'll have to find Kain to get out of this, Jonathan thought.
Despite his sight, hearing and smell being stripped, Jonathan could still feel. In a split second he felt a disturbance behind him. He instinctively raised his blade, narrowly blocking a blow that would have all but incapacitated him. Kain striked at him with a fervor; Jonathan desperately tried to block each blow, but it was evident that Kain could see perfectly in his own fog blanket of blood. Although Jonathan was the better swordsman, so he was not in any real trouble yet...
...Until something slammed painfully into his back. Gasping in shock, Jonathan spun around to face the unknown attacker...
...Only to have Kain slice a long gash into his wings. Jonathan immediately covered up the wound with darkness, to prevent any of the blood gas from touching his wounded flesh. Sensing a blow coming from the right, Jonathan brought his sword up in a puncturing motion; he felt something wet and sticky splatter against his blade. Suddenly, an attack, from the left this time, hurled itself at Jonathan; just as he shot forth a bolt of darkness to counter, another attack came from above. Jonathan raised his blade up to block, but Kain saw that opening, and slammed a bolt of red energy into Jonathan's chest.
Coughing, Jonathan doubled over in pain. At that precise moment, dozens upon dozens of attacks rained upon him, ruthlessly battering at his protective coating of darkness on the skin. There was no way Kain could strike that fast, from that many angles at the same time... Then he understood where those attacks were coming from. They were the same red bats that Kain had formed out of his wings. It seemed that inside this mist of blood, Kain could form blood bats out of the red vapor, from literally anywhere that was filled by the gas. Jonathan tried to dodge, but the bats were everywhere; they had no blind spots, and there was nowhere they could not reach.
How could Kain be this powerful? Jonathan thought to himself, while he thickened his barrier of darkness to block the barrage of blows.
He doesn't even have enough blood in his body to maintain this mist in the first place! Then, suddenly, Jonathan realized something.
Kain is the son of Incarnate. He is using his False God powers against me! Jonathan ground his teeth in rage. He had hoped to fight Kain fair and square, by not using his Master powers against the vampire; but now Kain was using his False God powers to try to overwhelm Jonathan, Jonathan had no choice.
Reaching deep into his consciousness, Jonathan began to draw forth the power of Bloodshadow, Master of Darkness...
Jonathan was not moving. Had he collapsed under the pressure of Kain's attacks? Kain could not care less. Sadistic glee etched itself onto his face, as Kain prepared the final blow that would incapacitate his rival, and claim his superiority over that insolent halfling.
Suddenly, the world around Kain exploded. Darkness, pitch darkness, filled every corner of existence, and the redness of his Blood Veil was simply pushed aside and absorbed into nothingness. Kain clutched his head and screamed in silent agony, his sword dropping onto the obsidian floor. Then, as soon as it had began, the darkness vanished. Kain could see again, but his Blood Veil had vanished without a trace.
Jonathan stood before Kain. Immediately, Kain could see that thing on Jonathan's face. An obsidian mask resembling a demonic dragon, it concealed Jonathan's features, leaving only his eyes exposed. His eyes were different; they were still the same red, but they were so cold and terrifying that they made Kain shudder. And on Jonathan's masked forehead, in a vertical slit just above and between his two eyes, was a third eye; it was as red as freshly spilled blood, and the patterns of the Mark of Darkness could be faintly seen in its abyssal depths.
"Did you really think you could defeat me, Kain"? Jonathan laughed coldly. "I possess powers you could not even imagine in eons." When he opened the fanged mouth piece of his mask to speak, sanguine fire leaked between his jaws; his voice seemed to echo in every shadow.
Uncontrollable rage boiled in Kain.
That damned halfblood! He was always better than me, always one step ahead of me! Always! As hate and spite surged up within him, Kain gathered his powers. His red wings dissolved into blood, as did his armor. The blood and crimson energy danced around him, gradually concentrating themselves into a single elongated spike of power. Kain pumped everything inside him into that one attack, leaving himself hollow and weakened. As the long pike of blood pulsed and glowed with power, Kain unleashed that attack onto Jonathan with full force. "
TAKE THIS, JONATHAN HAEMOS SHADE!" Kain shrieked.
Watching the gigantic spike of blood hurling toward his heart, Jonathan merely laughed. Not even bothering to raise his blade, Jonathan held his hand in front of him. The center of his palm glowed and rippled, forming into a miniature abyss. A wave of terrifying dark power erupted from that hand, and engulfed the red spike of blood.
"Dark Gate."Kain watched in pure horror, as his attack was being absorbed by Jonathan's hand. That attack contained every ounce of energy he had, and yet... Jonathan had absorbed it with a casual flick of his hand. Utter despair claimed him, and Kain fell powerlessly onto his knees, his face lowered in defeat.
"You lose, Kain," Jonathan said as the demonic mask cracked and broke into pieces, fading into the darkness.
Sitting on his opulent ebony throne, Incarnate's eyes were wide with shock. Not just his two regular eyes; the barely visible vertical slit on his forehead was open, revealing a crimson eye with black sclera, identical to the Eye of Darkness. Incarnate trembled, as his third eye came alive with power, recognizing its previous master.
Done.
