Xanriel sits stunned for a moment, his lips still puckered. At Sirenes's comment he snaps back out of it, shaking his head as he stands and slides his hand around her fist, trying to sneak his fingers in. "You worry too much. That was incredible." He smiles, leading her  out into the courtyard.

Her fingers open and she twines hers between his, pulling his hand closer against her middle. She smiles and walks quickly to keep up with his long strides as he takes her to the colosseum for Jonathan's match. By the time they get there it has already begun, or at least the smack talking was over with. Sirenes stares in amazement at the enormous obsidian structure. "It's huge. I'll race you up!" She laughs and releases his hand, hiking up the front of the dress a bit as she starts running up the long flights of stairs leading to the seats in the stands.

Heimdall woke up groggily, the feeble rays of light coming in through the window, struggling against the darkness. With a yawn, he got up from his bed of broken dreams and walked over the door. Was there something I had to do today?

As he opened, the door, he remembered. He saw a dark figure standing in the doorway. "And you are?"

The figure stepped out of the shadow. He was a tall, very gaunt vampire, with quite pale skin. His eyes were very small and red, and he held a twisted black staff. Attached to the top of the staff was an obsidian sphere, with tinges of red crawling into it. He was wearing a robe of pure black. His collar, however, was startlingly red. The figure smiled, showing his small, red teeth. "I am Veneficus, the leader of the Black Magic magicians corps that are the elite guard of Incarnate in the army of Darkness."

Heimdall stopped. Yesterday, Incarnate had mentioned that he would battle against someone else. Was it Veneficus?
"What is your business here?"

Veneficus smiled again. "Incarnate told me that he would find you here. We are to battle."

Blast it, said Heimdall. "All right. Are we allowed weapons? Spellbooks? Potions?"

"One weapon, one potion. No spellbooks," said Veneficus. "Meet me at the training grounds in ten minutes." With that, he mouthed a syllable and disappeared into the shadows.

Heimdall stood in the doorway. No time to think. Only time to prepare. What weapon should I choose? Do I even need a weapon? He finally thought that a dagger would help him, as it was highly concealable and Veneficus might not know the he was even carrying weapons around. Heimdall put his Stealth potion in his pocket and flew down to the armory.

Once he was there, he asked for a small, sharp dagger. After paying, he held the blade in his fingers. It was no longer than his hand but was very sharp - perfect for the job. With dagger in one fold of the cloak and potion in the other, Heimdall strode out into the training field. Veneficus was already there, holding his staff lightly in his hand.

"Have you chosen your equipment wisely?" said Veneficus. "I have."

"Yes," said Heimdall. "I am ready."

Many vampires and demons, apparently having anticipated the fight, took seats all around the training ground. There must have been a hundred or more spectators, thought Heimdall. I'm not going to embarrass myself.

Veneficus strode to one end of the the training ground, using the staff as a walking stick, as casual as could be. Heimdall walked to the other end of the training ground but decided not to extend his blades.

"LET THE FIGHT... BEGIN!" cried a vampire in the crowd.

"I'm the best magician in the Kingdom of Darkness, Heimdall. I would congratulate you for lasting about a minute here," said Veneficus, twirling his staff casually.

"I took down 2 cities of the Fallen Elves, defended one of your towns from an army of Death, and slew a King Lich as well as Chaos Lord himself," retorted Heimdall. "And I've only grown more powerful since. Overconfidence is not the key to success."

"No weapons or potions, Heimdall? I'm surprised," said Veneficus with a sneer.

"I can say the same to you," said Heimdall. "All you have is that staff."

"It's more than a staff, silly Ulitharid. Allow me to demonstrate." And with that, a bolt of shadow careened from the head of the staff, traveling faster than light, heading straight for Heimdall's chest.

Xanriel laughs as he takes wing. kicking off the ground and chasing after Sirenes, flying up the stairs behind her, moving slowly to let her think she was winning. As she turned toward the seats he closes his wings, landing on a seat and launching off of it, doing a back flip over her head and landing in his seat with his legs crossed, smiling.
"You going to sit?" He asks, winking.

Sirenes stops just a few seats away, mouth open in surprise as she let's the hem of the dress fall back to the ground "That's no fair!" She laughs and moves beside him, taking the seat and looking out into the center area of the colosseum. "GO JONATHAN!" She shouts, cupping her hands over her mouth, then grabs Xanriel's hand, twining her fingers between his and pulling it into her lap.

Somewhere in the audience, Jonathan seemed to hear Sirenes cheering for him. But he didn't really hear what she shouted, because his attention was fully focused on Kain, and his blood-red sword glowing with black; its color scheme was a perfect reversion of Jonathan's, with the red and black switched around. Although Jonathan was sure he could win, he was not about to let his attention wander elsewhere; it would be a foolish mistake to underestimate Kain.

With a furious snarl, Kain raised his Vampire Falchion and charged at Jonathan, cleaving downward in a vengeful strike. Smiling coldly, Jonathan countered that attack with a vicious upward slash, intent on lopping off Kain's head. The two vampiric blades clashed; they hissed and shrieked, as red and black energies tore into each other, with both swords trying to drain the life of the other. They appeared to be evenly matched, and neither could overpower its opponent. With a grunt, Jonathan pushed Kain away from himself, and leapt back. With a slash he launched a black bolt streaked with red lightning; Kain mirrored that attack, shooting a red bolt lined with black. The two bolts of darkness crashed into each other, and dissipated in a shower of dark colors.

"Is that all you've got?" Jonathan taunted.

Kain's face twisted into a ferocious snarl. "Blood Blade!" He slashed at Jonathan with his blade, sending a crescent-shaped arc of energy at him.

"Blood Blade," Jonathan countered with the exact same attack. Once again, the two identical bursts of power clashed, and faded into nothing. "If all you're going to do is mimicking the attacks I used against you the last time we fought, don't even bother. Stop wasting my time, or you really will regret it."

"All right, halfling," Kain hissed, his eyes glowing red. "I shall show you what a true Vampyre can do!"

Heimdall rolled to one side as quickly as his reflexes allowed him to be, but the bolt of darkness was simply traveling too fast. It hit him on the side at an oblique angle, bouncing off and hitting a tree, where it dissipated in a puff of darkness. Heimdall was knocked in a spin due to the force of the collision and he landed hard on his knee. Then, he glanced at the tree that was hit by the bolt of darkness, watching as it twisted and corrupted before his very eyes. At least I dodged the core of the blow, thought Heimdall, getting up. But the fight had only just begun. Veneficus began firing more shots at Heimdall, but this time, he was ready.

After a quick mental compression, he fired his energy outwards in a powerful orb of protection. The bolts met the orb, which reversed their charge and sent them flying straight back at Veneficus. Startled, he swiftly leapt to one side, but was too slow; he was hit square in the chest with one. As he doubled over in pain, he whispered a long, guttural incantation. Heimdall watched as his body shriveled, only to see that it quickly reverted to its former self. Veneficus extended his staff. "So, the old psionic has a couple of tricks up his sleeve? No matter. My spells will make short work of you."

"Just you try," said Heimdall, picking up a rock in his webbed fingers. He tossed it at Veneficus, propelled by the force of his mind. Veneficus uttered a syllable and seemed to start moving incredibly quickly, easily dodging the rock and running at an extreme speed towards Heimdall. In a few seconds, he was upon him, bringing his staff crashing down at the spot Heimdall once was. Heimdall stepped to one side and kicked Veneficus, knocking him back but not harming his body in the slightest.

"If I can't take you down with spells," said Veneficus, fingering his staff. Suddenly, the bulb at the top of the staff exploded and disappeared without a trace. It left behind a sharp blade, shimmering with malignant power. "You were foolish to not bring a weapon," cried Veneficus, stabbing at Heimdall with his new weapon. Heimdall instinctively extended his long, icy elbow blades, redirecting the stab. Veneficus looked surprised, but Heimdall gave him no time to recover. In an instant, Heimdall was slicing and hacking, twisting every which way in an attempt to make contact with Veneficus. Veneficus blocked and parried masterfully. After a particularly reckless slice on Heimdall's part, Veneficus blocked it and swung the butt of the staff at Heimdall, knocking him upside the head. Heimdall reeled back, sparks flying from his eyes.

Veneficus was merciless, jabbing and slicing at Heimdall relentlessly. Heimdall blocked to the best of his ability, but the length of the polearm combined with Veneficus's speed made it a difficult task. Finally, Veneficus managed to make a shallow cut on Heimdall's left arm. Ignoring the pain, Heimdall used a wave of telekinesis in an attempt to tear the spear from Veneficus's hands. Unfortunately, it was enchanted and could not be affected with telekinesis. Sensing an opening, Veneficus stabbed, and Heimdall leaped backwards, tumbling over a thick clump of grass and landing on his back.

"It's over," Heimdall heard Veneficus say as he watched the blade travel towards his throat, transfixed by its seemingly slow motion.

OK, really, don't let this thing die, please.

Editing in progress.

"Vampyrus Morphum!" Cried Kain. Raising his arms and blade high above his head, Kain began to glow in a scarlet sheen of light. Then, his sword burst into sanguine flames, which travelled downward from his hand onto his arm, onto his body, and onto his feet. It was very similar to Jonathan's own transformation to True Form, but he doubted that Kain could transform into something even remotely as terrifying as the Master of Darkness.

A pair of black wings burst out of Kain's back. Unlike Jonathan's, Kain's wings had no draconic scales; it was leathery and streaked with red, the wings of a vampire bat. His black hair became longer and wilder, while his fangs grew long and feral. His robe morphed into red scale armor, decorated with black spikes. The red flames then dissipated, fully revealing Kain's new form. His pale skin was now covered in ancient red glyphs, radiating powers of blood and darkness.

Jonathan was impressed. He was able to turn himself into a semi-demonic form, but it was only because of the demon blood inside himself. Normally, full vampires should not be able to transform at all; but Kain was right in front of him, black wings spread wide, radiating power than no normal vampire should have. Was this the power of a Vampyre, one with blood relations to Incarnate?

"Impressive," Jonathan smiled, "but it is not going to save you." Effortlessly, with only a casual flick of his will and no summoning of power, Jonathan's black robe transformed into his black armor lined with red. His long black cape billowed behind his back, then twisted and turned into a pair of black draconic wings. A slender tail sprouted out of his back; his red hair became longer, and two black horns grew on the sides of his head. His sclera now pitch black, Jonathan looked into Kain's eyes and laughed coldly. The whole transformation had taken only two seconds, about four times faster than Kain.

Kain twisted his face in disgust. "Wretched halfblood, your very form is a mockery to the purity of the vampiric race!" Raising his sword, Kain charged at Jonathan, almost twice as fast as before. But Jonathan could see his movements easily, and he parried. The two vampiric blades clashed again, hissing with power as their masters tried to overwhelm each other. Jonathan and Kain continued to pump energy into their swords, and sparks and tendrils of black and red energy lashed at each other, trying to drain the other of its essence. Jonathan gritted his teeth; damn, but Kain was stronger than he thought. Much stronger. But Jonathan was not about to lose; he would not lose his honor, and most of all he would not lose Nyxia. With a grunt, Jonathan pushed Kain back with a burst of darkness.

As if sensing Jonathan's growing worry, Kain smiled savagely. "I'm stronger than you thought, eh halfling?" Pointing the tip of his sword at Jonathan, Kain shot forth a bolt of crimson power surrounded by black lightning; the bolt was twice as wide as his arm. Jonathan's blade crackled with red lightning as he raised it, and brought it down upon the bolt in a single cleaving motion. The bolt was cut cleanly in half and dissipated, but Jonathan cringed in pain. The bolt had stung his hand.

Kain's grin widened in sadistic glee. "Prepared to be shocked once again, halfblood!" He spread his leathery black wings to their full span. Jonathan watched, wide-eyed, as the thin red veins in the black wings spreaded out, turning the wings more red than black. When the wings were almost completely red, it suddenly started to bleed; then pieces of the leathery material began to break off. The broken pieces twisted and reformed, turning into voracious red vampire bats, thirsty for blood.

Bats? Jonathan frowned. Kain did not summon those bats; he created them out of his own body. How was that possible? Jonathan did not know how to do that himself. But Jonathan did not have time to think, as the scarlet bats shrieked and lunged at him.

Jonathan folded back his wings and tail, so that he would be a smaller target. A single red bat dived at him, but Jonathan pierced its heart with a single blow. He was surprised when the dead bat melted into red liquid, which was then absorbed into the black surface of his blade. Blood, Jonathan thought. Kain is creating those bats out of his own blood.

But the knowledge did not help him, as swarms of crimson bats were constantly being spawned from Kain's wings. The bats rushed toward Jonathan, intent on draining him to an empty husk. Lengthening the spikes on his wings into tentacles, Jonathan lashed out at the bats, absorbing their constituent blood into himself. But even a sword, eight tentacles and a tail was not enough, because the bats were too many; Jonathan twitched in pain as the bats tore into the membranes of his wings, draining his blood and creating even more bats. Luckily, Jonathan was not in danger yet; when the bats sucked blood out of him, he also destroyed the bats and sucked their blood into himself.

"So you have figured out my secret, eh?" Kain's smile widened, showing his long fangs. "You will fall, Jonathan Haemos Shade. You have no chance against Kain, the Blood Master!"

Jonathan laughed inwardly at the irony. Kain would certainly not be smiling if he learned what Jonathan was the master of. Concentrating his powers, Jonathan let out a powerful ripple of dark energy. The wave of blackness engulfed the bats, and melted them into nothing. "Blood Master or not, you will not defeat me, Kain."

Kain snarled. "We'll see about that, halfblood!" Bats stopped forming out of his wings. Instead, his wings began to glow red, as did his sword. A strange hissing sound was emitted from his sword and wings. Then, like boiling water, a steam-like but blood-red vapor began to form from the red surfaces of Kain's wings and blade. It expanded rapidly, and filled the space around Kain. Raising and spreading his wings, then bringing them down in a powerful fanning motion, Kain created a powerful gush of wind that blew the crimson vapor outward. With alarming speed the gas spreaded out, filling the vast space of the colosseum.

"Behold, my Blood Veil!" Kain shouted as the red mist began to surround Jonathan.

Done.

BTW, if you haven't figured out already, Kain's wings are made of blood. The entire creating bats from blood thing is also copied from Shaman King. If I remember correctly, the character's name was Boris Tepes Dracula, a descendant of Vlad Tepes Dracula; he manipulated blood to mimic the powers of a vampire.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

Sirenes's hand gripped tighter around Xanriel's as she cringed and turned her head away, unable to continue watching. Truthfully, she didn't like fighting at all, not even watching it, but she felt she should be there to cheer Jonathan in his battle. After all, this battle had meaning. He was fighting for his home and the one he loved. The moment the tournament was planned she'd decided she would be there, even though she would not be in it.

She gasps as the blood mist fills the colloseum, placing a hand over her mouth to avoid inhaling it. But she needed to breathe and couldn't hold it forever. Despite her effort and fear she was forced to gasp for another breath. Would the veil of blood harm them as well? Xanriel had told her he didn't require that particular task.

Character: maX (muTant)

Element: :entropy Entropy

Description: maX looks like a robust woodsman from the small towns of Life's Forest. His daily wardrobe consists mostly of brown. He has an air of fierce cleanliness about him, you'd wonder if whatever he is wearing is brand new. Everything about him is drab and commonplace except for his eyes, which are deep dark fuchsia they're almost magenta.

Story: Everything about maX is not what it seems. Max is a first generation mutant, exposed heavily to entropian magic by his former druid master who stole him from his elven parents when he was a young boy who got lost playing too far into the woods. He is almost a century old now. In elf years, he should be reaching manhood by this summer. His master's... make that, ex-master's apathetic treatment of him became cold and cruel the past few months.

As chaos would have it, another of his ill-conceived experiments finally tore the druid apart. mAx chose to escape and find his roots. Apparently, the entropians have decided maX was the cause of the accident and have put a surprisingly huge bounty on both his pink eyes fully preserved inside his severed head.

Having been mutated this way and that, he developed a taste for several different species as long as they were of the same sex. He finds the natural reproductive ways of all life forms to be... disturbing.

Skills:
Chaos Power (aura 50m or line of sight) - His genial nature provides temporary and erratic support to his friends in health and power.

Lycanthropy - From a gentle burly elf (1|6), he can transform into a small demonic butterfly (6|1) that can cast the three other skill-spells.

Antimatter - The flutter of his wings can turn angry enemy creatures into happy and friendly helpful beings.

Paradox - His pink eyes detects OP creatures and turns them into dust with just one look.

Dissipate-Destroy-Anti-Rage - The demon inside him can choose to absorb enormous amounts of power and channel the entropic energies to disintegrate a single permanent magical structure. This weakens maX to transform back into his elven form, unconscious for 3 turns. (-5|+5)
