Heimdall stepped back, sliding an elbow blade still dripping with blood out of the chest of a Fallen Elf. After his nightmare, he had fell out of his bed. It was a good thing he woke up in time, because the inn was being attacked.
Now, he could only watch as Xanriel took a turn for the insane, talking to himself as if there were two beings within him. Next, he had seen Xanriel BITE a Fallen Elf. Heimdall looked at the elf, who was convulsing on the ground.
"Oh god, NO! Kill me! Kill me, don't let me suffer like this! Kill me, kill me fast!" cried the Elf, his face ashen in agony.
Heimdall stepped forwards to stab the elf on the floor. Xanriel intercepted him.
"No, no, no, my friend," he said, shoving Heimdall backwards. "Let's wait and see what will happen..."
Then, in an entirely different voice, he boomed, "The Corruption will happen, brother, and you know it!"
Xanriel reverted to his normal voice, crying, "Of course you're right. Ah, but it makes my smile, every time."
Heimdall just stared in horror at both Xanriel and the writhing form on the ground. All of a sudden, the Elf on the ground screamed out once more.
"They're here! Within me! Eating! Eating, twisting, never ending! Stop this! Stop!"
Heimdall watched as the man disintegrated and was swallowed up by a pack of Malignant Cells, growing stronger and feeding on the elf's pain. Heimdall turned his eyes away from the gruesome sight as Xanriel cackled with glee. He ran down the corridor. Ragen and Dorfl were the farthest in the front, pounding down the Fallen Elves like two invincible juggernauts. Behind them, Jonathan crept away. Heimdall and Sirenes ran after him, intending to get away from the inn. Zanthos brought up the rear, sending arrows flying over and over in an attempt to fend off the growing horde of Elves. They poured in from everywhere - the back door of the inn, the windows, and even broke through the walls.
"There's too many," Zanthos cried. He lowered his bow and ran with elven grace after the party. Then, he stole a glance behind him. "Come on, Xanriel!"
"Party's over," he cackled with glee, sprinting after the party. His Malignant Cells continued to expand, forming a thick wall and curtain that slowed down the Elves as they ran towards the party. Very soon, Ragen had broke through the front door and sprinted through town. The rest of the adventurers followed him closely as they burst into the chaotic town, the Elves hot in pursuit.
