The mafia know 3 of their roles, and there’s a 2/17 chance that they claim a role not taken. It’s reasonably possible that they’ll claim a role already taken, but they could also roleswap in each other’s roles, and what if someone claims an important role like hua, durandal or emma? we lynch in ccs and possible mislynch a power role to the greater detriment of the town.

First of all, why would they ever swap their claimed roles? Mafia swapping claims with other mafia has zero benefit and hurts them more than anything else.

And if they claim an important role, it will still be a 50-50, and no role is so important that I wouldn't trade them in for a guaranteed mafia kill. Not to mention that if we lynch mafia from the 50-50, we not only kill a mafia but also soft-confirm a town.

By the way, the scenario I'm talking about is a late-game mass roleclaim. Nothing that is relevant right now.

I just feel as if in order for someone to claim something and get lynched after, that would mean the town is forcing someone to claim, right? It’s as if you’re suggesting that at some point, the town will force someone to claim and for theresa to put their report on them, and then we either catch a scum which isn’t a bad thing or catch a lying scummy theresa. I think we’re just agreeing here, other than my distaste at forcing someone to claim.

Town does not need to force claims out of people just for this reason. In the event of there being no relevant claims, like right now, Theresa can also gather information that does not become relevant until after the claim.

I think it's way too risky due to the ability to detect which role someone has from certain town roles, but you could swap mafia roles to make that role type match their core type.

That’s a fair point and I agree that that’s the best play for a town Theresa right now.

I would argue that there are scenarios in which certain roles might oust information due to being cc’d. For example, we would want to know who Theresa cc’s were on and their reports to determine who to lynch or gain information before one of them dies. This might give valuable role info to the maf. As far as role swapping goes, torb makes a really good point about matching the ability types. What i was thinking more was hiding an important role like killing roles until an information role comes forward to call out the lie, and then the maf can kill the baited out investigator.

This is what I'm getting too. Nothing unusual from TorB nor are there any significant ideas contradicting to mine yet. It's still only N0, and these roles are too new for me being able to comfortable flesh out new ideas as of today.

This is a distinctively different Coffeeditto than the one I remember from the last couple of mafias, though, where he kept rolling town... Although I guess that's probably just a result of more free time.
