I've been contacted by Linkcat in Blab PM, who claims to have used Search on me and that I showed up as mafia.

I'm not mafia.

I have two possibilities:

1. Link is mafia, and is using either Search or Hasty Search on someone, and then telling someone he thinks won't post in the thread (like me) that he "searched" me
2. Link is civvy, and is claiming to have Searched me into luring me into admitting that I'm mafia. Which I'm not, sorry to disappoint.

As much as I'd love to quote our conversation, the rules are clearly against that. Our conversation began with Linkcat insisting that I was mafia, proceeded to me insisting against it, and finally Linkcat admitting that I had outbluffed him. We had previously discussed our roles - he knows what I am and I think I know what he is. I'm the civvy policeman.

I'm not sure whether or not to hold Linkcat in suspicion. If he's bluffing, he makes an extremely believable mafia member. But then again, I'm easily swayed.

Linkcat claimed Special Forces to me. Special Forces can't search. This is not adding up.

Hasty Search was used on me, fwiw.

Look at UTA as an example to follow, fellow civilians... it makes a lot of sense to me for targets of Hasty Search to post similarly. The target of hasty search is notified if Civ and knowing who was targeted by HS gives town information about where mafia are looking to find other mafia.

But also don't be surprised if a mafia says that someone used hasty search on them.

I would note that having mafia not knowing the other mafia at the start likely means they will be more active than is typical around EtG mafia games.  Also, it seems more than half the sign-ups are inactive and there are certainly not that many mafia members...

Your option 1 is extremely unlikely. Like, almost crazy if this is the case. The option 2 makes perfect sense. Unfortunately the option 2 just lost 60% of its potency, because of this post

based on my fun time and performing well in Root's mafia (59) and it being restricted to the forum thread only, and my relatively poor-er performance in other mafias I did here where I chatted and PM'd about the game, I am taking a vow this game to communicate only in the thread about the game. if you chat PM me I will stay neutral and give responses pointing to this. feel free to post here if you have convincing arguments as to why I would benefit from talking outside this thread (in the past I always ended up in-bed with mafia and hurting civ - just read some of my past mafias previous to 59).

I'm going with this for now. Can the (1) people please post something like hello, GOOD MORNING! or something similar? Also, rob's suggestion seems suspicious, I think that only helps mafia search for each other faster while providing barely any info for town.
