Is claiming "Not zil" really the best option here?

If someone claims Zilean, it's going to be public, and everyone else by default is going to be not Zilean, so I don't see any harm in it.

If we can get everyone to claim either Zil or Not-Zil, it helps us get to the role-claim faster. Prevents having to wait a period of time for possible counter-claims. And if you aren't Zil and are town, what do you have to lose by claiming Not-Zil?

Well its essentially forcing zilean to role claim, even if they don't want to or won't. All it will do is eventually end in the mafia killing the nonclaimed till they kill zilean, correct?

One:  Mafia will want to kill Zilian, giving a viable option for why a civilian wouldn't role claim. Two: Mafia would love to use that excuse to fake claim zilian and to mess with civvy plans.

Mafia doesn't get another NK until N2 (assuming last patch phase was N0), giving plenty of time to get the ball rolling for town. And fake claim still gives us 1 mafia, with 50% chance of getting the role-claim in, anyway.

...if everyone claimed not-Zilean, then essentially no one has, so we're right back where we started. If Zilean doesn't want to claim, that's what they would do.

Err....Not Zilean....

Also are PMs even allowed?  Someone said everyone claim to Zilean, which, as far as I know, means to PM Zilean with your claim.
I'm just asking because I'm still adjusting to the general rules here and where I come from there is no out-out-of-thread communication whatsoever (except under very specific circumstances planned for in the game.)
