3. Depends. As mafia you will always have some scheming to do, as civilian it will more depends on what kind of ability you get.
4. Eh. As long as it is a viable strategy, anything goes imo.

When someone does get some info and/or convincing arguments, I'd be happy to (re)move my vote.

We need the salvager/psion to investigate or else we'll just run in circles. (You can investigate me if you don't believe I'm a civilian) We have to find someone with 5 hp, but also we'll need to "hide" those "detectives". I suggest the psion to keep low until we can find the otyugh. (don't tell who's who or we might lose the psion, just quietly investigate everyday and make a group of civvies that you know for sure they are civvies, again, you can investigate me if you really want to, the next target should be d2d, he seems suspicious). Anyway, that's the strategy I thought we might use.

Ian, generally that's the strategy that the civvies generally try to adopt: get together an alliance of confirmed civvies and overwhelm the mafia. Also, confirmed civilians generally reveal themselves and rally the civvies by asking them to send in their roles, and then the protective roles save the confirmed civvies while he sorts his data which should tell him who the mafia are. If the confirmed civvie manages to sort the info properly, then it's an easy win for town by following the confirmed civvie's plan.

Oh and generally the investigative peeps (e.g. Salvager and Psion) generally hide in the shadows and simply help out the Confirmed Civvie with all of their info when the time comes. I mean, they'd be pretty dumb if they reveal themselves while the Otyugh is hungry. Of course in this game we really need to get the otyugh out quickly; if we do that then Mafia becomes really UP and we will most likely win.

It's the first time I'm playing so I just thought up a strategy, but it seems it was already used. Oh well.

When the timer is over we will have a night phase where we can use abilities.

I'm used to more simple, in person Mafia games.  Strategizing this one is far more difficult... Especially for this initial vote. I'll follow Morts example and push for evenness for now.

I'll answer one of those questions. Lying and lurking, valid strategy. There's less then half the people as Mafia, and thus in a numbers game when it comes to voting, they need to lie. They need to lie so badly that hopefully all the people on vote are civies. I enjoy the game most being a mafia.
