No, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the only way to protect from lynching to be a cancer patient and then get cured? Meaning justa has to be a cancer patient? Correct me if there is another possibility.

Let's think about this.

If Root is mafia:
He already knows that Justa is innocent, so calling him a mafia and saying "please feel free to lynch me" is pretty much a deathwish. I really doubt this.

If Root isn't mafia:
He doesn't know that Justa is not mafia, and thus tries to make a guess. Much more likely.

Thus, I don't believe Root is mafia. Also, he has excellent deductive skills, so I don't really want to kill him.

justaburd is a confirmed Cancer patient - which means we know with certainty that he is not mafia. Yes, I told you he was mafia, this was a lie to get justaburd lynched, which was our most strategic option. We could have gone with a RNG lynch and probably kill a civilian, or we could lynch justaburd - not actually killing him - and find our first confirmed civilian. The latter option is far more advantageous.

justaburd is confirmed to be innocent. We now have to send our roles and information to him so that he can formulate a strategy for us. This is our best chance to win.

Going to point out a spin on things: Root, as mafia, resolved Justa's anagrams which claimed to be cancer. From that he knew he could gambit vs justa & gain trust

The backup argument prepared for this spin: but mafia's silly & voted vs justaburd _again_ instead of killing anyone. A convenient way to guise mafia as being as clueless as me as to how mafia works
