Elements D&D (3.5) The First Age of Alamnar
I’ve been inspired to create a D&D campaign based on the rules established by the 3.5 release of Dungeons and Dragons. This game will be played in the same way you would have played a D&D 3.5 campaign with the exception of the battle map. Battle’s will have to be descriptive and organized, but range/line of sight/flanking/etc will be left up to my discretion based on your combat post (more specific rules when the time comes). The world I’ve created is fairly basic, but that allows me to have a more free flowing adventure which I find more enjoyable. I do not like having to somehow force characters to get to a certain point in order to continue with a predetermined plot line. Unfortunately I will only have room for 5 players in this game. Hopefully this will encourage others to follow suit and start running other campaigns.
A few rules:
1) My biggest pet peeve….NO META GAMING. Please do not have your character act on information that he does not know. To prevent allot of this I will use pm’s to send information that only your character may know. For instance, If a player does a search, I will post what he finds in front of everyone in the forum, but I may pm him a list of things he may want to keep secret from the party (i.e. a hidden hatch under a dead body to come check later, or a coin purse behind the bar that would be easily slipped into his pocket without notice). It is then your discretion what you share with the party. On the same note, feel free to send me a pm if you wish to attempt to do something without the others knowing.
2) No reserve posts. This will only come into play when outside of a combat situation, so order of posting isn’t always important. If you want to take an action before someone else does just post it, if someone beat you to the punch I’ll apply common logic and look at the timestamp to see you were typing at the time of the post.
3) When in combat the forum will be under a no post rule. Everyone will be given an order based on initiative and posting will commence in that order only until combat is resolved. Once the group starts to get the hang of how combat works, I may lift this rule.
4) Do not assume success. When you make a post please be very descriptive but leave the result of your actions left unresolved. For instance, if you want to shoot an apple off a character's head don’t say “I draw an arrow into my bow and take careful aim at the apple. With sweat beading down my forehead I exhale a long breath and release the string watching the arrow sail cleanly through the air, slicing the apple in two.” or even worse “I shoot an arrow into the apple on his head.” Please post something more like “I draw an arrow into my bow and take careful aim at the apple. With sweat beading down my forehead I exhale a long breath and release the string watching the arrow sail towards my intended target.” I will reply with the result of your action. This also includes non combat actions like picking a lock, or even an NPC’s response.
5) You are expected to be relatively active, but I understand real life comes first.
6) I will do all the rolls.
7) Changes in rules are up to my discretion as this is the first time I’ve ever attempted anything like this and am sure problems will arise.
Applications:
1) This will be first come first serve however a reserve list of people who didn't get in on time will be kept, and to prevent any half hearted players from wasting time I will have no issues with replacing a player due to severe inactivity or lack of interest in playing the game as intended. Do not request to be a substitute in this forum after we have started playing. The reserve list will be ordered by the initial request to play posts, if you by chance did not submit a request to play post then send me a pm to me.
2) Ownership of a D&D 3.5 player’s handbook is a minimum requirement as you will need to reference that on a regular basis, however any extra books you may have will be taken into consideration when we get to the character creation phase of the game. I assume if you own the player’s handbook you will have experience playing D&D 3.5. Don’t prove me wrong.
3) There are only five slots in this game, and when you send your request post please simply state which slot you wish to fill. The slots are…
Rogue
Ranger
Caster
Melee
Bard/Other
Slots will be given out in the order they are received and are vague ideas for your character.
4) NO EDITING REQUEST TO PLAY POSTS. If you wish to change your request, please repost with the new slot you’d like. Edited posts will be ignored. I have my reasons for doing it this way.
5) Once all the roles have been filled I will begin the process of character creation and explain the process for it then. The main reason I wish to hold out on people creating characters is I do not want them to rush through it in order to get a request in. I want good, well thought characters for this game. Also I want to see what books people have access to. Opening plot line will be posted then as well.
Special Notes:
1) This will not be a quick game, please plan for a looooong game play experience. However, to keep things fun I’m going to try to implement a few things to speed up leveling.
2) I will have a character in the party and he will/should be treated as just another player character. Do not turn to him as if he is me, or expect him to have all the answers. However I may use him as an instrument for certain plot twists.
3) I understand that rules will be broken/misinterpreted, but I will do my best to politely inform you of the proper way to do something.
