Once discussion got going in my team, we did really well. (Won every game except our first.) I personally think teams are great, if you do it right.
This. I enjoyed working with Annele and Jocko. From quite early on pretty much every move we made was agreed on between at least 2 of our team. It meant we were probably playing slower than some other teams, but we still managed to be only the second team to finish all 11 matches. I think Connect 4 teams can only work in this way or something similar. Otherwise single player is probably preferable.
I think the main problem with this event is that it's gone on for so long and people seem to have lost interest a bit. A few possible ideas to speed things up;
- time limits (only with single player),
- smaller boards - we were playing on 9x8, I think standard is 7x6 which is nearly half the size,
- less matches - maybe a 'group stage' with 4 groups of 3 then top 2 go into quarterfinals, etc.
Anyway, now that our team is finished I'd like to say thanks to RR for organising things, thanks to the other teams for some fun matches and especially thanks to Annele and Jocko for being a great team.
