This brings back memories of my online chess game with Helios a long time ago. Kind of sad he's not around any more.

How exactly are we deciding black and white?

I actually just had that problem, I started a game and automatically became white.
I went to random.org and flipped a coin (well you know, I did a 50% probability) and got white anyways so I just started

I think random.org automatically makes the game creator white
so have a coinflip beforehand and make the winner the game creator
I may be wrong.

or maybe I'm completely misinterpreting your question, but I just automatically assumed coinflip.

Sorry, but the sign ups are over. If there is another one I'd be happy to notify you though.

The first round has been done. If in the next round say White wins in one game and black wins the other, I'll simply switch them. In the cast that white or black won both games, I'll finally get to use that C# coin flipper.

Double king pawn opening, I tried a bishop pawn gambit that succeeded handily and left him a pawn and knight down early.  I started well ahead in development, but tried attacking his king's position too early and found myself under fire.  Tight defense saw me through... I made a blunder on move 18, exposing my queen to his bishop's line of fire, but he didn't take the capture.  I'd still have been a knight ahead, anyway; from that point on it was a war of attrition.

Good match, ddevans!  Looks like I'm facing either Rainbowninja or DesertKnight next.

28. Ng6# 0-1

I started with a simple opening, but upon progress his pawn to my side of the board I had to rethink my moves. Soon after I castled, and he placed himself in front of my king. Not taking that pawn earlier was my first mistake. At that point I switched to defense, isolating my king in the corner surrounded by my power. Moving the bishop to my sixth row was a bad play as well, as it left a gap and really couldn't do anything there.

From there it was mostly a task of keeping his queen away and defending myself with the few pieces I had left. It could have worked for longer if I had taken the pawn he advanced to my second row, and that was the third major error. With only my queen left I couldn't do anything against both of his and the army standing before me. He trapped me in my own hideout, RIP king.

I canoodled my way to a point where I had the advantage pawn wise. Eventually became clear I'd get a promotion, which would give me the victory. agent played valiantly.

Pretty sure I made a lot of mistakes along the way.

Onizuka, who won your game?  That isn't a checkmate, but it sounds like your opponent resigned.
