Weekly/Fortnightly Newspost https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=14478.msg183586#msg183586

Hey Guys,

I was trying to think how I can contribute to the Elements community and I came up with this idea.  Not sure if there is somehing similar to this up and running or previously suggested but I could not find anything.

Every week or fortnight create a newspost detailing all recent Elements related news, this includes weekly tournament/league coverage, War coverage, highlighting hot/interesting forum topics.

In my opinion this might help the community become more aware of events, other players and their contributions.  This could also help raise the profile of newer players in tourneys and leagues who may not get themselves noticed in chat or on forums but when things like War come around they are not unknowns.

I know this community has a pretty hardcore element who will probably not need this as they have the time to scour the forums in detail and are well aware of most things that are going on.  For folks like me something like this would be pretty good to be able to keep up to speed with everything going on.

Would this be something you would like to see or would it be a waste of time?

Cheers

I did something like this a while back: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,6447.0.html

I idea was to pot one every month, but as you can see, the last "monthly" issue was posted in May. :) I'd like to restart this project because it's a good way for casual forum users to know the "big picture" of what's happening and what will happen in the future.

Then again "Community News #1" received only 354 views, so maybe it's not as useful as we think..

You know, this isn't all that bad an idea.

Since most peeps log in on the weekends to resubmit their scores (and just because it's simply the weekend) the weekly post could happen on Sunday.

Also, this could give a spotlight on council meetings (like minutes), what's going on with development, interesting notes about War and other related PvP, who won this week's PvP tournaments, advice coloums, letters to the editor, anything of interest that was discussed in chat but peeps missed out on it, etc.

I think it's possible to send this out as a mailing list to all the members who wish to get it in their PM box to.

This idea has a lot of potential, would be a gret place to condense a large amount of information, and keep members of the community abreast of all relavent info. I like this idea a lot!

I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

Maybe posting it in a more visible location would help. A link on the front page perhaps. People that would like something like this would want something simple and easy to get into rather than sift the forums for the link. Tis why I suggested a newsletter mailing, though I am not sure if that's viable.

Given the amount of goings-ons we've got, I think this might be fun and a good way to get more peeps involved  ;)

Well I would be happy to be involved in some way if you were looking for volunteers since i'm not an amazing guide writer, deckbuilder, image creator, list goes on, like a lot of folks in the community but this is an awesome game and I would like to chip in where I can.

I agree with Kuross it may need more visibility on the forum but the idea of mailing list doesn't appeal to me since I tend to ignore most things that get sent to my inbox.

Also Kuross's ideas are top as well.  Keeping folks updated with council and development stuff would be great.

Glad this isn't one of my tinfoil hat ideas then.  ;D

If the DJ ever gets to recording the weekly radio show (since I heard he likes to record it on Thursdays), I think that will qualify as something very similar to this.

Hey, I remember SG's community newsletter!  I liked the idea, and I had hoped for it to continue.  It's really nice to see a little snapshot of what's going on in the community (and fun to look back on, later!)..

I would definitely like to see something like this start up again.

Yeah, this is a great idea. Maybe there could be one person to help SG with this, perhaps a new staff title.

To be completely honest, I thought that there could have been something incorporated of a 'Newspost' onto the Wiki site, to both increase traffic as well as make it more useful to the community. Then again, modifying a sticky post every week to update all of the latest highlights in regards to what has happened so far (Trial/War updates, Featured Card article, Council/Tournament/Patch updates, specialized articles/posts in the community, etc.) seems a bit easier...

I think we should probably do this AFTER the second war ends, and possible before crazy new events like WoE and the next set of Trials begin...

I'd really like to help in this in any way possible, and I'd really love to have it up and running, since I can be hours trying to find trivial information just because it's "hidden" or in several different posts...

It's also something not THAT time-consuming if done well, maybe someone could check what posts are of importance, then send that info to someone else (the editor) who should actually write the newsletter...

And if weekly is too much work, it could be 2-weekly (?)... Anyways, great idea

I like this idea as well. Being gone from the forum for a long time, mostly due to having no internet, some kind of highlights of the Elements forum and game world would be nice to catch up to speed. Though I've already done that by browsing the forum, it would be a good idea. I wouldn't even mind helping out with it some.
