As much as I can understand that warnings are necessary to keep everything on a clean level, messages which only include the reason for a warning but no link to the post which caused it won't help the user in any way. I've received at least 3 warnings yet, 2 of which were handed out for insults. The last one was for profanity, and I really don't know which post of mine was that damn bad. I'd like to know which post it was and suggest to add a link to the warning as well. Warning users without telling them what's the warning for is somehow not productive.
Current message for profanity:
ArtCrusade,
You have received a warning for profanity. Please cease these activities and abide by the forum rules otherwise we will take further action.
Regards,
The Official Forums of Elements, Free Online Fantasy Card Game Team.
Before I got warned for using the word "rape", but it's nowhere said that there are words which are banned from the forum. "You suck" in a reply to a topic against SG seems to be too offensive already as well. Either this forum is a forum of sissies or I missed some lines in the rules - which should be added if they're not there.
Discuss ;)

While I do not agree with the general tone of your post, I can certainly understand your frustration and I agree with the fact that a link to the offending post, or at least better specifics if the post was removed/altered in some way would be much more beneficial to the offender, especially if they want to try and improve their behavior or standing in the community.
-
I agree there should be more information as to where the rules were broken and what the exact post/violation etc was.
I personally have no idea wich words are banned but if you would just behave yourself on this forum there won't be any problems. Saying things like "you suck" aren't banned because we're sissies, they're banned because you show no respect to other members.
Just be respectful and behave maturely and everything will be all right.

maybe, idk, "you suck" was considered spamming/flaming?
keep it pg. it's that simple.

This is a community, Not a place to rant/rave/insult or use offensive language. Their are many many players under legal age, And that alone should be enough to conduct your self in a mature way.
I agree your infractions should be included in your repramand..... but when you start banking reprimands, It's hard to believe the mods were wrong.
I used to run a MTG forum.....You are lucky, Because your third reprimand on there, And you would not have had an account left to post a crying message.
So if I were you I would look in the mirror BEFORE complaining about how others (mods) do there job.

Even if it isn't specifically spelled out as to which words are offensive in the rules, the rules explain it pretty crystal clear in my honest opinion:
Language Policy: We wish to create the friendliest atmosphere possible in our forums. As such, excessive use of strong language will not be tolerated. The odd "bad word" is fine but a profanity laced rant is not. Discretion will rest with the moderators.
So next time it would be much wiser to ask yourself if a 13 year old's parents would be happy with them hearing the word you're using before posting it on a thread.
I actually like the idea of not telling users which of their posts got them the warning since it should add to the incentive to stop and really think before they do something. Otherwise I would think the user would simply see that, "Oh okay, so I just won't use THAT word anymore" when they should be saying, "Oh man I really should watch what I say on here."

@tiebearius: I don't mean to tell anyone how to do their job. The messages are automatically generated but don't include information which is necessary for me to behave better in the future. I just suggest to add a slight bit of information telling you what got you a warning.
@willng3: It says excessive use of strong language. I didn't know using one bad word would be considered as excessive use of a bad word. But that's not what I'm here for. I'm not here to rant about me getting warned, but to make it easier for people who get warned to behave in a better way. Your argument based on the statement "Oh okay, so I just won't use THAT word anymore" is invalid as any bad word is a bad word. You're going too far into detail. I'm talking about the bigger whole.

On this we agree. I never gave reprimands without their being the original infraction in it, If for nothing else, To give the reprimanded a chance to defend/correct his mistakes.(As well as documented replies/im's So in the future I had a record should another infraction occur)
But each forum has found an equilibrium that works for it. And since this forum is very civil, They found what works for them.

My suggestion is that instead of complaining about not knowing where the line is, you just shouldn't go near the line in the first place.
If you have any specific complaints or criticisms, please take them to Scaredgirl or the moderation team directly, rather than airing them in public. Thanks.
