Title: The New Abbreviation system
Post by: BluePriest on April 20, 2012, 03:34:06 pm
Just a random list to see what is caught and what isnt.
OP
AI
Plat
Electrum
TC
UP up
Arena
Bronze
Silver
Gold
FG
Level 3
Lvl 3
PvP
PvAi
Ai3
Ai1
Ai2
Ai4
HB
Half Blood

I like the new system. Although it doesnt benifit me too much it will help newbies and streamline common abbreviations. Things like OP vs TC may become streamlined with it sice OP is considered overpowered by it. Also nice to see UP is caught but up isnt. Seems like good thought was put into this. I see why things like arena bronze, silver and gold arent mentioned because they can be talking about a lot of different things unlike plat.

Can I deactivate this system ? If not, would be good to have this option.

I'd suggest looking at the Glossary instead of making a random list. Details here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,33490.msg484286.html#msg484286).

If you wish to stop them from being highlighted, go into Look and Layout (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=theme).

I think the mouseover text needs to be improved a bit somehow.  For instance, when I mouse over UP in the paragraph above I find that part of the definition is cut off by my window even when it's maximized.  I also find that sometimes when I mouse over the abbreviation either the bottom or top part of the definition is cut off (I was also having problems seeing the definitions at all at first, though I can't seem to notice this occurring now).

EDIT:  Okay, so apparently I wasn't seeing the definitions because I was scrolled down too far.

seems like a nuisance to me, but i already understand 99% of the abreviations and i always have the choice to deactivate it so overall, its a good addition :)

In the quick news, it says full members or above can suggest words to add to the glossary. How do you do this?

In the Glossary section click the top right button that has next to it: "Add a new key word".

I dont know if this is so much a word to suggest, but golem says something along the lines of "usually lava, sometimes hermatitie" however, Shard golem is one of the most talked about golems right now. Should probably change the text?

EDIT: OP also has the problem where it can mean "overpowered" or "original post"

I already tried. That button doesn't work me me. Earlier it took me took a plain javascript page and now it does nothing.

EDIT: It works if I enable the highlighting, which I was hoping to avoid.

My bad. You should be able to add words now, even if you've disabled the highlighting.

How do I do the enabling? I don't see the setting in the settings.

It was causing too many problems (including slow loading times), so I disabled it for now. The Glossary tab will still help newbies a lot, though, so I'm keeping that there.
