I though about this whole Karma business yesterday. Like I said earlier on this thread, the core of the problem is new members getting negative Karma.

Someone on this thread suggested that we got rid of the negative Karma. That's actually a pretty good idea. I found a really easy way of doing it without needing to tweak the code which is awesome. Advantage of this is that we still have the "reward" that Karma gives, but we won't have any more "negative Karma outcasts". And the best part is this: I will never have to go edit Karma log again! That alone is good enough a reason for me.

I have now disabled the "Smite" button. Lets see what happens.
+1 That's what happened.

I never used the negative karma button anyway. :)

I think its also them giving negative karma the instant they are able to. Was Negative Karma'd because they thought my thread was overstepping into mod territory.

Are we getting reimbursed for all the negative Karma since it was disabled? It looked like I did, cause I thought I had 2 before that happened, and I have 2 again, but I mighta had 3 and didnt realize it.

btw, I really dont care if I get it back, im just wondering if we are all getting our negative karma back.

You could have given that Karma to the person who actually came up with this simple, yet great solution. :)

We have a difficult choice here. :)

Yes, Jangoo did suggest it first, but I think I stopped reading after #3 because I didn't see it.

I did however see it when killsdazombies suggested it, which is the reason I changed the Karma system. Without the post by killsdazombies Karma system wouldn't have changed.

So which one is better, being first to suggest it but not reaching the correct audience, or being second and making a difference?

It's an interesting philosophical question. Think about it. :)

killsdazombies is actually more like the 13th to jump the band-wagon.

12 people supported abandoning/nerfing negative Karma before him. They all used very different styles to write up their post and make exactly that point ... You can also find them in that ordered thread-review I made a couple posts above: concerning a negative Karma-nerf as common ground.

You know the old saying "Kid, ya got tomatoes on ya eyes?" (says grandma and rolls eyes skywards)

Only 4 people suggested total removal of negative Karma (the system we use now). Also I'd like to point out that majority voted to keep the old system. So your "everyone wanted this" is simply incorrect. :)
