Skipping through posts

Hello there,

this forum is bursting with activity! Buzzing and buzzing and buzzing. That's really awesome and I love to play a game that has an active community, unlike some of the others that are on my list (Soldat for example)

But with all this activity - and tons of posts of course - it can be quite difficult to find the really interesting posts in threads that have a length of 44 pages or more. My suggestion is that certain people - Zanzarino for example - get a button to directly move to the next post of this user. A little bit like here!

It would make it easier for people like me who do not want to go through every single post to view the most important parts without needing to go through 30 pages of comments!

What is your opinion on this?

That's a really cool feature idea. Basically we would set it up so you could skip to the next Staff (or some set of designated usergroups) message in a thread. I haven't seen a mod for SMF which does this, so it would need to be custom built. I support this idea, but not sure when I'll get a chance to implement it. Also it would be good to hear if anyone has a reason to be against this.

The only argument against it is that many a user will entirely skip all posts that are not written by a member of the forum's staff (or a designated user group as you already explained), but these users already do that - just that they have to look through more pages. There could be more reasons against this feature, but I can think of none actually.

A thought on making this happen: Perhaps the links at the top of any given thread that say stuff like "zanzarino (3), ColorlessGreen (2)" showing who has posted how many times in a given thread could link to a search of posts by that person within the thread instead of just linking to that person's profile?

@ColorlessGreen: That's actually a great suggestion and should not be too difficult to implement!

The biggest problem with doing this is performance. SMF's structure is not set up in a way that would make this efficient. Doable but not ideal at all on the server.

Same. When I saw they were just links to profiles I was like "well, that's useless".
