Then I don't see any reason why pictures in signatures shouldn't be allowed ::)

As I mentioned earlier, I love our sleek and clean "theme" of our forum. IMO, an image as signature is making a forum looks cheap since not everyone is a good artist. And I would also prefer not to disable the signatures since I might be missing some of the cool image-free signatures.

On a side note, IF we are considering image for signature, 120 pix for height is too much. If it's up to me, I would limit to 40 pix for height.

I have to agree with this.
I would much rather a famous quote, or semi witty remark between the posts than an e peen enhancement in the form of a banner or whatever.

Plus, let's face it. It's not like the general community is that good with avatars in the first place. I am seeing at least 10 different rotating speheres (may contain exxageration), which IMO just slow the service down without actually bringing that much more to the original picture. If there were one or two it would work, but...

So what about an option only to disable pictures, but not text? A win-win situation I'd say.

That's like saying forbid alcohol, because some people might get drunk. I am against moving avatars, and these spheres are annoying and unoriginal, but no prime example for what would happen with signatures.

Numbers can still be discussed.

Dimension wise: 500x50 is my ideal for this forum. That way it's long, has a decent amount of room for content, yet not too obstructing. I must admit, I'd like the option for images in signatures, and possibly with a size cap at around 300kb it wouldn't lag the forum much, if at all, for the large majority.

But I don't mind either way.

Yes, I can agree on both of these.

Pictures in signatures have always boggled my mind. Signature are an identifier, your own name or something relating to you so you wont get mistaken for someone else. Example on a check or a painting, or a specific mark on a piece of metal or woodwork to signify who made the item or whatever.

In forums the Avatar already does this. So there is no point in using the signature at all for pictures. All it does is slow the forum down and eat resources and as SG already pointed out it takes up space between actual content. Due to this I use signatures as info on myself for the moment that anyone can use. As in ign and chatname etc.

On a sidenote.
As a personal rule in any forum that allow such crap I block all images from said host/user and blocks the users if they EVER makes a post where 50% or more of the post is a signature in height.

I already suggested a solution for those of us who don't want to see pictures in signatures or signatures at all. This way it's a win-win situation and everyone is happy.

You are assuming that signature text and signature images are somehow separate, and you can disable one but not the other. That's not an option. Check your profile settings for more information.

When evaluating suggestions, we first have to see what is possible and what is not. Even the best ideas are useless if our forum software doesn't enable us to do it.

I just had an idea: like avatars - where you can upload your picture from your computer or from a URL - you could have 2 signatures. One which allows three lines of text and one which allows one picture (size discussable) and one line of text. Only one - the checked one - will be displayed.

That's adding a brand new mechanic into the forum, that very well might not exist, just like your previous idea.
