well, the two links up at the top (ya know the ones that are like "show recent unread stuff and whatever) are imo hard to read because of there color and the background so if the color can change or something that would be good.

The links are bright white and the background is black. I don't know how it can be easier to read.
Unless you have a very low screen resolution and the card image goes behind the text?
We'll create our own theme in a few weeks and we'll make sure to avoid such problems at this time. For now the theme is a generic one, slightly modified by SG, and yes it's not perfect.

Yes, that particular text should be easy to read because it's white text with almost black (#222222).

As for all text and contrast issues on this forum.. those exist simply because I haven't done them yet. This forum is still under construction and will start to look better every day. If you find something that looks horrible, it's usually not  me who has put it there, it's just that I haven't done anything with it yet and it still has the default SMF 2.0 theme settings.

Chriskang, we won't be doing our own theme "in a few weeks" because..

1. It's not even close to being top priority
2. We won't be doing any custom themes until Simple Machines Forum 2.0 is fully released (this one is still Release Candidate 2, and there could be even a RC3). After it's fully released, we have to wait for mod developers to update their mods (aka plugins) to avoid any compatibility issues.

Everyone likes pretty things but I don't think anyone can say this forum layout sucks. It's perfectly ok for the time being (after I fix the text issues, etc). Top priority now is to add more content and make it all work smoothly. Then later after the SMF 2.0 is released, we can concentrate on the layout.

That was my idea too until I checked the SMF roadmap.
Did you now that the first beta of SMF 2.0 came out in June 2007? That's 2 and a half year ago. After that, they released a new version every 6~10 month and there's no sign of a change in the foreseeable future.
2.0 RC1 was released in February 2009
2.0 RC2 (current version) was released in December 2009
That's a 10 month gap.
And this post (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=346813.msg2367078#msg2367078), from a member of the team, says that a RC3 is "very likely".
With the current schedule, that makes RC3 release in summer 2010 (at best) and 2.0 final in winter.
Do we really want to wait 1 year with the current theme?

Top priority now is to add more content
I'm curious: like what?

Yes, I read that post too. The guy isn't actually a member of the development team. He's just a forum guy who is guessing. But with a post count like that, I'd say it's an educated guess.

RC3 might come, who knows, but the current version is in a very good shape. There is not one single major bug in this software that I've found. In fact I don't think I have found any bugs, period. RC2 is also currently used on many big forums and it seems very solid. If I didn't know, I would have guessed this is a final release version.

Whatever happens, it won't take 10 months, and I'm willing to bet a lot of money on that. But if nothing is happening in a couple of months, then we can proceed to developing that new theme.

Well, regular forum content. Modifications, tutorials, sticky posts, new categories, etc. There's a lof of things we can improve to make this forum better.

Also I have one big "secret" project in the works that will hopefully help make Elements bigger. :)
