"Rainbow" Icon

I notice we have some new icons:

I'm not the biggest fan of these and I think we as a community could do better. How about another art contest like the one for the Underworld icon?

This icon was submitted in the Underworld Icon competition by BloodShadow, but lost.

So... why is it an icon on the forum?

My submission came in second, I don't see why Bloodshadow's was added, no offense to him at all. But i agree, we should have an art competition like the Underworld one. I'll bring it up with the other COs and SG when any of us can about a competition to add icons.

I actually like the icon for some reason - I think the null symbol is simple enough to be recognized, AS WELL as matching the current other 'icons' found ( for example has a simple star in a circle - has asymmetric rings around a 'planet'/circle, etc.).

That said though, the new rainbow icon looks to small in comparison to the other ones. Can we increase it by a pixel for each dimension by chance? ^^;

IMO, that icon makes no sense. There are the colors of the rainbow being crossed out. It's more anti-rainbow then rainbow.

It's not being "crossed out" it's a null symbol symbolizing rejection.

Isn't the icon's "rejection-ness" a little off now that the icon is no longer to represent the UW team but the rainbow one?

I'd suspect, that if Rainbow does become a team, there will be a new competition to design an icon to represent it. Because I'd have to agree, Bloodshadow's icon might have been good for UW, but aside from the colors, it's not much of a fit for Rainbow since the null symbol has no connection to Rainbow at all, or so I see.

You forgot to mention some details.

First of all, your submission got 41 votes while Bloodshadow's got 38. That 3 vote difference is meaningless, especially when considering that the vote was for Team Underworld icon, not Team Rainbow icon.
 
Secondly, your submission is way too different from all the other icons. It has a completely different graphic design, and doesn't "fit in" at all imo. Like I already said to you in the private forums, it also breaks the competition rules by not having everything inside the icon (because you cut it in half). While this is not about the competition anymore, it does make your icon way too different.
 
From all the legal icons that looked like they could be "rainbow", Bloodshadow's submission got the most votes, and was a simple and elegant. It was a pretty easy choice for me.

There are many ways to define the null symbol. You could for example say the they reject all elements as their "main" element and instead use all of them. If you think it like that, it makes perfect sense. The icon doesn't have to be an actual rainbow now does it?

But of course if you want it not to make sense, that's easy too.
