Intermediate league to bridge BL and CL

So there has been some discussion on who should and should not play in BL on chat.  There is currently no restrictions on BL; anyone with anyscore and skill level can play.  Some folk believe it sould be a sanctuary for new players, others think it should be open to anyone who wants to play unupped.

An interesting suggestion that was proposed in chat was an intermediate league.  Basically it would be an unupped league for experienced players and Beginners league would truely become a sanctuary for new players.

Thoughts on this suggestion.

It's hard enough already trying to keep the Beginner's League active when you allow both vets and neophytes.  Sectioning into two separate ones seems like you'll just be making both even less active.  That's my main concern.

@JMTD: I like the Idea. I have some newbe friends who refuse to participate BL because they have no chance to do anything. Something called Beguinner League which contain T50 players, Master and lots of veteran is a bit antinomic IMO.

@Tstar: CL runs with half the number of people  as in BL. I would reduce the length of the league (and maybe the rewards consequently). You might have noticed that the last month was pretty much empty of battles. I would also require a minimum number of battles and a minimum number of opponents. A maximum might as well make sense. In such conditions I think a 3rd league could run.

Suggestion: The gourmet-league (veterans who can appreciate the real value of unupped cards) could allow 6 upped cards (a little difference with BL - for example) and start at 35k score and Italians would have a handicap because nobody likes them.

I approve.

Although, I do have issues with "intermediate". First, this says you aren't a newbie (or a vet), but you have upped and unupped cards. I say we allow a limit for upped cards used in battles as well, say 30-40% of the deck? (this is not required, people can still make a more "intermediate" barrier) Second, a score limit should be put in place again for this league as snow suggested, 30k to about 80k~ (maybe lower) sounds decent. Thirdly, more LOs would need to be hired say around 6~ total? (2 per league)

@TStar, leagues get inactive, it happens. But they never "die", they are just super active at the beginning and the endings, due to quick starts and strong finishes.

I might have to look into this idea, sounds nifty, but getting rewards faster might be a hassle. Who knows.

-100 score rating off the start sound like a nice handicap to others, we wouldn't want the Italians to have a head start when nobody likes them, should we?

I like the idea. If it's implemented, I just found my place. I hated BL for the unupped requirements, while I can't afford CL yet. I would fit.

Already discussed and shot down.  The main issue being the need for even more prize codes.  At least for the forseeable future there will only be 2 leagues.  There will be some changes however to try to promote more activity throughout the season, such as implementing a required minimum games played for example.

Like TStar said, the main issue is lack of reward codes. If we did want to have a 3rd League, it would we have two options:

1. The winner of the "noob" league only gets an icon (a small one)
2. League rewards are redistributed between all 3 leagues, so that some of the rewards given in current tournaments, will be moved to this new 3rd league. Winners in "noob" league would get either small cash prizes, or small cash prizes and a rare card for the winner.

Option 1 is kind of lame because "noob" league rewards are so bad compared to the other two leagues. With crappy rewards, players are more inclined to quit mid-way, or not join at all.

Option 2 would probably be better, but it would mean a bit more work for the organizers, plus slightly less rewards for league winners.

We'll run the next leagues the usual way, while at the same time continue this discussion. If there seems to get a solid need for a 3rd league, I don't see any major reason why we couldn't make it happen.

This is a running gag between me and some of the Italians of the forum (among those you can find RavingRabbid, illustrious master of Water and SpikeSpiegel, Master of Time and general of my team). Please don't be offended, you might chock while swallowing your pasta.

On a side not, to kirsh and TNG: could you just make your quote of my words a bit less aggressive (36 yellow bold and underlined, man !!!). That's now the first thing you see when you enter the post. It clearly wasn't my point here.

I agree. I would however, also forbid the veterans to participate to the noobleague. That way the real beginner might have a chance to win or at least to do something...
