Improve the Ignore List https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=46084.msg1033246#msg1033246

As of currently, 'ignoring' someone simply blocks their posts from being viewed to you on any topic, but gives you a 'very convenient' button to reopen said post(s). This tends to create a 'shmuck bait' reaction where you're not sure if the post is constructive or malicious, so you click it anyway and find things you didn't care to read about.

I feel the ignore list should have two additional options to fix this issue:

1) A 'No Notify' mode - if that user posts on a topic, it will -not- show up in your 'Recent Unread Posts' or 'Recent Replies' section.
2) An invisible mode - basically replaces every instance of that user's post with a grey box saying 'this user is ignored' without the button to make those posts reappear. This makes a user less likely to reopen a post just because he/she is not sure what it is.

What do you guys think? This should probably only need some extra coding or a small mod to the existing Ignore system to be implemented.

+1, i often find this very situation and it's frustrating that the button to show post is too easily available.
Mostly just spammers spamming, but sometimes trolls trolling. And if it can be improved, why not?

I disagree. In gamefaqs for example, I have about 15 people on my ignore list (go gamefaqs mods-not). Sometimes it would be nice to be able to see what they have to say (sometimes the desperation at trolling is funny), but in order to do that I have to unignore them, and then read what they say, realize its boring trolling, and then reignore them. Sometimes it would be nice to jsut have a little button that shows yeah this person is ignored, but here is there comment if you want to see it click here.

Its really not hard to not click a button of an ignored user that says this user is ignored, click here to see the comment. If anything, make this something that can be toggled instead of removing it.

it would be nice if you could block people from your ignored list from posting in threads that you created, as well.

This sounds like the changes Gaia just implemented regarding their ignore system.

(1) makes sense.
(2) is just...What? We're going to help those who can't exercise some self-control by taking away their ability to make a choice? Are we a bunch of pre-schoolers?

Also, moo's "block list for threads" idea sound interesting, but I don't know if any random thread creator should have that much power in deciding what we have moderators to decide.

If you cant stop yourself from clicking the button in the first place, what makes you think you would be able to stop yourself from untoggling it so that you can click the button, and then retoggling after you realize you have been baited?

its a way of telling people "you're a twit, i don't care what you have to say about my topic, find somewhere else to spend your time other than disrupting the attention of those in this thread."  there were several people on my ignore list who absolutely loved posting in my card idea threads, even after i had made it known to them that i would appreciate it if they would refrain from doing so.

I see your point, but we have Card Curators (they can delete offensive posts, right?) and Global Moderators for that. Think about it like this: you're giving Noob A who makes "Buff Dimensional Shield!" threads the ability to mini-mod them and ignore all the intelligent people. :P It won't be long before Noob B starts making his own threads to diss Noob A, etc...

Slippery slope? Maybe. But you can never be too cautious.

issue being not every dumb post is offensive, and people on this forum seem pretty tolerant of stupidity.  the true danger is that even if you ignore them, someone else wont, theyll comment, then a chain of comments will ensue in the thread, all going back to the person who is ignored.  when i ignore someone, i dont want them posting in my threads.  having that little box to click works fine for threads other than my own, but when its mine, i want them out.

obviously this is up to the mods, but it was something that definitely detracted from my experience on the board and was part of the reason for my withdrawal from card designing.
