While I'm open to making it whatever the forum really wants, no, this is not what I meant.  I simply mean members are given money.  It would be displayed on the left hand side and there would essentially be a donate/give button.  Script would pop-up a function to insert how much to give, and preferably a second area to insert a reason.  You could view your recent transactions history on your profile.  This is the extent of what I mean.  Past that, it would be up to the users to decide what to do with said money.

Economy sounds too similar to rep. Rep is basically the same thing, only there's practically infinite amount of it (whee inflation!)
Each time a newer member joins there will be more economy (whee inflation!)

I dunno. I've been on forums where there was an economy system where you could buy colored titles, username changes, user text changes, changing other people's text (for a price)...etc

Personally, I feel way too much of a hassle.

Vets leaving equalizes both the new members and the post based rep.

Personally, I feel way too much of a hassle.

My main question is whether or not it would benefit the forum as a whole.  The next step (or perhaps the first step ) would be to see if the admins are up for it.  If none of them are familiar with setting it up it could be a hassle, or the admins could be perfectly comfortable doing it.  What I mean is, let's decide if it is something we like, and then let the people with the actual power to make it happen decide if it is worth it.

All these new accounts would make for a lot of inflation. Now maybe there could be different currencies and varying exchange rates. We could split members up into their resident countries and work it that way. Then we could set up a global economy! Staff members would become a whole new level of elitist as 1% of the members hold 99% of the money! Occupy Elements Community! What about taxes? Everyone would have to pay taxes to the Admins and Council! In fact, why virtual money? Let's use real money! I could use a new ivory back-scratcher.

In other words, it seems kinda complex and unnecessary. Hell, I doubt even finance-based forums would have a system like this. What's the point, again?

That's funny, but obviously doesn't need to be nearly as complex, in fact it's not complex at all if it's a simple give and take system.  Make it as mathematical as you want, it's all just for the sake of it after creating the basic functions.  It's purpose would be to encourage community participation with a reward system more accountable for than rep.  However slightly or greatly.  Want to increase forum participation to increase the forum's size and activity.

But yes, obviously if the almighty trio of Admin's aren't up for it, let me know now and I'll stop pushing for it
