Events vs. Competitions https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=3640.msg33350#msg33350

I would like to propose a clear distinction to be made from here into the future: Events vs. Competitions.  The relevant section of the forum has a title that encompasses both, but I propose that each thread in that section begin with either "Competition:" (indicating an event that is intended to be balanced and fair, for those of use who like to COMPETE) and "Event:" (indicating something that's intended to be interesting and fun, but not for hardcore gamers who like a fair fight.)

That will tell everyone up front whether discussion about the rules should be encouraged (for Competitions) or held back (for Events).

The War is clearly an Event, not a Competition -- and if we had all known that up front, we could have saved a lot of heartache.
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

I agree that would have saved a lot of bantering baout wording etc in the thread.

Thanks for the suggestion.

OK, in the other games I've plaid (mostly MMORPG's but what the heck) there was a clear distinction between this things.

Competitions were contests where players erm... competed with other players in some aspects of the game, like fighting. For example, in Runescape there were clan wars, where everybody with a clan could participate. Yes, high-leveled players with huge high-leveled clan had the upper hand, but considering the dedication they had for the game, having and advantage is only normal.

On the other hand, events were usually happening during holidays and were like mini-quests rewarding a fancy item, which was just looking awesome. Also fan sites also conducted events, like having people with Halloween masks walk through the entire world. This didn't include any competing.

So yeah, that's about what I had to say..

Ew. Don't mention Runescape. I had solely merchanted for 3 months straight to get enough money for a blue mask, and then two days after I get it it's scammed from me my someone I had known a long time in the game. Haven't touched it for 3 years.

Anyway, I agree with the distinction.
