Okay, this is kind of a long and complicated idea, but I think it could potentially be one of the more popular sections if we do something like this.
The majority of the PvP happening in Elements right now is either large-scale events such as Tournaments or the PvP Event sections, or the random battles you play when using the in-game PvP.
There is very little on the forums based on organizing single battles, which IMO is one of the funner ways to spend time. However, as of now, PvP Duels are entirely limited to popping into chat and basically going:
"Anyone wanna have a duel?"
At which point someone answers:
"Sure. Upped or Unupped?"
And that's as far as it goes. But I think it would be really cool to have a way of properly organizing epic 1 on 1 Battles, or utilizing special rules in single battles and not just in events or tournaments.
That's why I propose an entirely new section devoted to organizing duels. The section will be unofficial in every way, and be primarily run by players involved.
This is how I imagine it to work:
It will be divided into 2 sections, the Challenges section and the Special Rules section. Possibly a third Unofficial Tournaments Section for things like SHUT.
I'll start by explaining the Special Rules section.
This will basically be a large collection of Special Rules you can use in duels.
A "READ THIS FIRST" Sticky topic will provide information on how to use the section, and define the default Tournament style Rules.
Default Ruleset:
- "Best out of" (3, 5, 7, 27, etc.)
- Allowed to change decks between battles.
- Card Restrictions may be in place (eg. SoG is banned, Airborne creatures only, etc.)
- Certain types of decks may have to be used. (Mono, Duo, Rainbow, 30 card, 60 card, etc.)
- May incorporate "Set Decks". (eg. Elder Decks only)
This will be the default ruleset used for battles. Within that topic, other people can post "Variations" of the ruleset.
In this example, all the previous tourneys could be listed as variations, or you could create your own.
Of course, the default isn't all there is. You could post your own "Rules" that people could use in their duels.
Usually Special Rules will involve something that happens in between duels, forcing you to use certain decks rather than the freedom of the default ruleset, or the win condition changes in some special way.
Many examples can be found in the PvP Events section. (War, Sideboard, 12 Lives, Draft, etc. use Special Rules.)
If you have an idea for a Special Rule, you would start a topic explaining how it works. There people will both help you develop your idea and post variations on the ruleset.
That basically sums up the Special Rules section.
Now the more important section, the Challenges Section.
This is where all the challenges take place.
Every members that are interested in receiving or giving challenges from ANYONE else can make a topic in this section.
The topic is titled with their Name, Status, and optionally things like winstreak, W/L ratio, Score, etc. (These are unofficial, but it might be fun to keep track of.)
Name is the forum name.
Status is marked with either (R) (Receiving Challenges) (C) (Challenge Available) or (O) (Occupied).
For example, I might name my topic "EvaRia (R) 3W 2L" or similar.
The topic itself contains basic information.
Forum Name
Chat Name
In-Game Name
Time Zone
Upped/Unupped Preference
Favourite Ruleset
etc.
Status
Either
- Currently Receiving Challenges
(This means that you are willing to accept any challenges from anyone.)
- Current Challenge
(This means you are sending out a specific challenge out to anyone. With this you provide information like whether it's upped or unupped, a link to the exact variation of rules you want to use, and any other information like bans. People can choose to accept this challenge.)
or
- Currently Occupied
(This means you are busy or away and cannot accept any challenges at that moment.)
After this, people will reply to your Thread if they want to Duel you.
If you are receiving challenges, they choose what rules they want to use.
If you have a specific challenge posted, they can choose to accept it.
They cannot obviously duel you if you are occupied.
After this they take it to PMs and find a time to duel, and carry it out.
If you don't want to send or receive challenges like this you don't have to start your own topic to challenge others. The people who start topics are only those who want to challenge anyone. If you just want to play one match against someone who's listed, you don't need to add a topic to the section to do so.
And that's basically how it would work.
So what I'm asking here is whether or not you like the idea and whether or not you would use it.
Personally I think it would be really cool and could potentially improve the PvP experience a lot.
