Warning, NA politics reference incoming-
Imagine the PResident of the United States as the moderators like Higurashi
Imagine people like the deck helper, competition organizer and warmaster as the senate,
imagine the House of representatives as the Council.

I feel like this should be the sort of relationship they have. I see what you are saying that it is good to have staff positions on the council, but considering staff is elected by the council, it seems counterintuitive. I think perhaps there should be a section where the staff and council converge to get these things done if there is a definite need for a secret section.

Hm, a 'convergence area'/bicameral legislature sounds interesting and fairly innovative. I really like the idea of a section where both council and staff meet.

Why the opposition to staff members on the council though? (Having them around is great for applications when we need in-council critique and some staff members do request cross-council feedback like the upcoming PvP World Championship.)

If one of the main jobs of the council is to elect staff members, then I personally dont see it as a good idea, and the main benifit of having them on the council would solved with the previously mentioned idea.

Zblader there is a quote from Civ IV that goes:

"The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy."

When you need liaisons for staff members to improve communication between the secret sections then I think SG's private council system is doing it wrong.  When I say take a project like 10 Questions for Zanz and make it public rather than private, I am implying that anyone can contribute regardless of status.  If anything we need less secret sections not more in regards to council.

In kev's State of the Forum address his first issue is 1) Find ways to keep players around longer.  I think giving deserving members who have never had a Staff Position some forum responsibility is a great way to get them more addicted to the forums.

I dont think someone should be in a group that elects who they are. EVen if we had total faith that it wasnt what was happening, its a matter of preventing people from using that as an excuse to think it.

An example

I Am an moderator on a Legend of the Green Dragon Site. For those who dont know, there is a hall of fame based on Dragon Kills, and many other things. Moderators are not tracked in any of them because it is possible for them to modify thier stats. Now, even though we all check to make sure this isnt happening, none of the moderators show up in it. Is it because the moderators are untrustworthy? No of course not. Its a matter of covering all bases to keep as much faith in the staff as possible.

Its just a personal opinion, and with the proposed change, I dont see any downfall to it either.

Council members who apply for a staff position are not allowed to vote for that opening, nor are they allowed to post in the Voting thread (to avoid trying to sway votes where non-council members cannot). Imo, this resolves any issues that come up with Council members voting for staff positions.

Um... you realise that it quite doesn't answer the point?

Indeed, if the people in the council already have staf positions, there's low probability of them being chosen for any other unless they're very able. The reverse if there were nearly/no staff on the council.
