So.. we all know this phenomena. Poor newb guy comes on the forums and naturally goes for the Tutorial section. He saws a number of great titles there: From Noob to False God Slayer, How to become RICH in 1 day, From Rags to Riches, etc. He follows one of them, starts farming Elders and gets by well. He then, since the guide worked so far, goes on to attempt FG slaying - and fails utterly because the deck linked in the post is more than one year old and its win rate has been ruined by balancing changes and new gods. The newb then can become totally heartbroken and disappointed (and may even quit), since he wasted all his/her money on a deck that is not even close to working. And this is one of the worst things that can happen - giving outdated, misleading, wrong help to the newbies on the official forums.

To fix this problem, I'd like to suggest the appointment of one or more "Tutorial Updaters", or something like that. They would be in charge of keeping the newb tutorials (both on the forum and the wiki) up to date - either by themselves or by voluntary help from the members of the community. I believe this is a very urgent matter that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Good idea, the Rare Weapon poll is hopelessly obsolete.

Agreed with this. In the least, we need to tag all the old threads as "outdated" since they haven't been maintained for a while. Threads that are maintained should be left open, while outdated threads should be locked.

If someone, Numbers or otherwise, is willing to be in charge of the operation, I'd be happy to tackle the occasional rewrite they send my way. Gyrodiot's FAQ turned out to have really awesome info in it with "de-Frenched" grammar.

Having written my own tutorial (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,28742) after seeing all the outdated ones, as well as raising the subject here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,29293), I'd be happy to be a Tutorial Updater, or 'Noob Helper' as Scaredgirl suggests.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

This was something that the current Council was supposed to do, but I was busy with other things so I didn't delegate it.

Basically what I'd like to do is have "Old Tutorials", "Outdated Tutorials" or "Tutorials Archive", and dump most of the current tutorials there. Some of the old ones might be salvageable, others are not.

I'm not 100% sure if we need a person with a title for this. It could work with just individuals perfecting their own tutorials, everyone working as one big team. I don't know what this "Tutorial Updater" would actually do.

I imagine them to have mod rights there so that they can update the outdated, but otherwise good guides. Of course, the problem of credits arises then: if someone else edits the guide then the original poster (who could have either gone inactive or doesn't have the time to update them anymore) the credit for the updater's work.

As long as something happens, it doesn't really matter in what form this takes place.

A titled (or at least empowered) person can make executive decisions regarding outdated or bad guides. The good guides require individual author attention, yes, but the abandonware would benefit from a gardener pruning things.
