i know there's technicalities and all that but is it at all possible to make the forums update your page automatically because i find it a little bit annoying having to continuously refresh the page. just a quick thought :)

I bet he's talking about the homepage, and in that case I'll have to say that I like it the way it is now. My computer isn't prepared for that, and I know I would find it difficult to see which topics have new replies. Refreshing only makes you lose 5 seconds, it won't kill you.

it shouldn't be a case of your computer handling it. the computer doesn't usually get affected by it. 5 seconds taken isn't so bad i admit but when you have to do it again and again then it gets a bit monotonous.

Reloading the page continuously would be the most irritating thing in the world. Plus, it would cause problems for those of us who occasionally use their phones or other devices with slow internet connections/poor processing power/data limits to check the forums.

Just hit the F5 key, or find/write a greasemonkey script that autorefreshes pages.

wow i didn't know f5 did that! anyway it was just a thought. actually i have seen quite a few pages that update automatically and it was nothing more than a couple of buttons popping up telling you what new has happened. but i do see that it may be difficult here, especially with so many people posting stuff all the time.

You are aware of the two links under "Hello killybob" that say: "Show unread posts since last visit" and "Show new replies to your posts", right?
