Trials Phase 1 Card Idea Analysis:

With Deflagration costing 2 :fire I feel like Windswept is stepping too much into Fire's territory. Aside, letting it have an ability to steal cards when you are cloaked seems a bit too much. Being cloaked you already have a certain defence from having your creatures and permanents from being targeted and by Windsweeping being cloaked is that much better.

I would personally let it cost 4 :air| 3 :air seeing as permanent control via direct paths is not exactly Air's forte. That cost lets Air have --some-- permanent control without letting it be simple permanent control for Air, it already has some of the best creature control, letting it have some cheap and quick permanent control I think is stepping into overpowered area.

With air having dominion over the airborne realm what I was thinking is that you could even change the card in such a manner:

Delay your target airborne creature 2 turns. Steal target permanent.


This is as if that creature worked in flying and taking the permanent away from its owner, thus having that permanent be "windswept" away from its owner.

I'm not quite sure if successive targeting would require new coding or something too difficult but it's certainly an idea.

Having said that, I am excited that you have opened a new pathway for many card creators to take, that being, having Cloak produce new effects, even if that tool is not used on this card.

Hm... after such an emotional post #5, it takes 6 months to notice that it got some attention.  I find that a bit amusing.

That aside, I do like the idea of combining two elements for added benefits.  However, I don't like that it produces an effect already available to the other element.  I don't really know if that can be helped much, though.

Well, that whole rant was during a time that I thought that in order to fix a broken meta-game, players should submit ideas to the crucible whose first priority would be to cause some kind of improvement for the meta-game, and if that priority is fulfilled, then the ingenuity/creativity factor can be ignored.
An example of card ideas that fulfill the first priority are the water weapon Winter.

This parallels with the notion that bad decks with a creative concept are worthless, if it's not fast then its ingenuity has no merit. After a few weeks, I realized that not every card in the Crucible should benefit, or even affect, the meta-game. After that, I decided that I wouldn't need to reply to the posts from January, but I did recognize them and jot down notes for remodeling should this card be kicked out of the Crucible.

And I occasionally checked up on how it was doing in the Crucible, so I knew it was getting some votes. The reason I finally replied to this thread was because something big had happened.
It went into the Forge. :>

Saw this idea ages ago before I was old enough for an account, and just wanted to say I LOVE this idea.
However, I believe that it would be better to steal when board is flooded, rather than when you are cloaked for four reasons:
  • Increases Flooding's usability
  • We have a lot of :water/ :air synergy, so some :air/ :water synergy would be nice
  • Cloak is :darkness, which is also the element of Steal, so why pay 3 :darkness + 2 :air + 2 cards + duo, for something that can be done for 3 :darkness alone?
  • AND it makes more thematic sense. (Something falling onto water and floating towards you.)

However, the :air/ :darkness synergy is cool too.

Flooding is currently situational, which means that it is only usable in a small portion of decks. Forcing synergy with Flooding as is would be forcing the effect in question to lose efficiency. You asked why anyone would pay 3 :darkness, 2 :air, and 2 cards for the effect of 3 :darkness and one card (with the addition of complete field protection), but who would pay 3 :water (+1 per turn), 2 :air, and 2 cards for the effect of 3 :darkness and one card (with the addition of a situational effect)?
In addition, the game currently has way too much Water/Air and Air/Water synergy; I believe this is not thematically justified for both elements. Water and Air should each be able to synergize with the other 10 elements, so I made a synergy where one did not exist. In addition, the effect (steal) is basically stolen (pun) from Darkness, so it makes more thematic sense for the mechanic to require :darkness than to require :water.
As for the idea of controlling water so that a permanent can flow towards you, why can't an Air Elemental control wind so that the permanent flies into your hand? :P

Yes, it makes more thematic sense for it to require :darkness, but something floating down a river to you makes more thematic sense than being able steal a floating object when cloaked.
