A very old idea of mine that was highly praised yet saw little merit due to a lack of discard archetypes at the time. I've adjusted it slightly to make it more useful and am now giving it another go.

Originally had a cost, but people felt the cost didn't equate to the benefit at the time, I'll link the old post to the notes and I'd like your opinion on an appropriate cost.

Sorry I didn't post earlier. I actually was thinking of essentially the same thing in a creature form a few days ago, but couldn't think of how to deal with fractal issues... Permanent makes those kind of moot though.

I love the idea and think it will bring a fun mechanic to the game. The only issue right now is that we don't have many ways to get the opponent to discard to begin with... but I guess its gotta start somewhere

Anyhow, nice job. And Kudos to Zblader on the nifty artwork. I'll be watching crucible so I can give it some support.

As an aside,
Darkness is an interesting choice for this. I would have thought to use aether myself (due to the mind / card theme connection) but this plays off of the theft theme for dark so it works well there too.

its tough to cost given synergy (practically forced combo) with nightmare. i'd say 3 or 4 is about right. if there was more than just nightmare and shard of bravery to use this with it would be easier to analyze.

The synergy with Ghost of the Past is insane with this card... A duo  :time / :darkness deck would be insane...

It is ok for being a free card; compare it with Soul Catcher for example. ;)
Overall, pretty good idea. I think it encourages the usage of Nightmare in mono :darkness. Thumbs up here! ;D

I feel by comparison to soul catcher it's balanced.
Soul catcher is free and generates the same quanta for an easier to achieve effect.
This compensates the harder to achieve effect by granting a copy of the card.
This also encourages a bit of diversity in mono dark because this can be used as a medium between nightmare decks and other dark decks.
