I think the main obstacle to having this be viable is that it could only be used in rainbow decks right now.

Shard of serendipity overcomes this by always giving you one card of a specific element (entropy).

If this card's ability included a means of being selective toward elements the owner could use, I think this would be a very useful card.

What if you allowed it to target a specific element?

" :entropy : Open the box
Add a random card of the chosen element to your hand."

I.e. the player would be prompted to pick an element from their quanta bar.

Or if you wanted to keep things a little more random:
" :entropy : Open the box to pull out a random card from the same element as one of the cards currently in your hand."

Another interesting rework:
" :entropy : Transmogrify
Trasform a card in your hand into two random cards from the same element."

This would have an added bonus of changing a card you don't need at the same time.

Whether the glass is half full or half empty is a moot point. It is always filled to the brim. It is only a matter of by what. The real question is: What fills you?
If your zombie plan is
kill -9 `ps l | awk '{print $2" "$3" "$9}' | grep "Z" | awk '{printf("%s ",$2)}'`

How many useless entropy cards are there though?
My default opinion of a new card is OP. Your job as a card creator will have to be to convince me otherwise.
Happy to help with questions regarding upped PvP

How many useless entropy cards are there though?
Its not so much that a card is useless in and of itself, but that it can become useless in certain situations.

For instance, if you were playing mono-aether and they had nothing but immortals and phase-dragons, it would make a lot of sense to start trading in antimatter and chaos seed cards in the hopes of getting creatures to fight back with.

If this card allowed trading in of cards from your hand and is made cheap enough to be splashed off of an :entropy mark, it could very well be one of the most useful cards in the game. Essentially it lets you turn any card into a random different one. I.e. you can instantly adapt to counter strategies.

Some examples:
-You are playing a psion deck and your opponent pulls out a mirror shield
-You are playing a gravity deck against mono fire... you can trade in weight shield for something that might actually help
-You can put enchant artifact into any deck that uses earth just in case you fight :fire or :darkness and trade them in when fighting other elements
-Put these into arena decks when the oracle gives you a shield card (I soooo wish I could do something like that on those days)
-Trade in Wings if fighting a deck that is heavy on flyers
-Trade in CC cards when fighting mono-aether
-Too many pillars and not enough cards to use them with?... :D

In summary:
-Allows situational cards to be included more easily since they can be traded in
-Allows decks to adapt when one of their cards is being countered
-May help make up for bad draws

I'd say thats pretty useful myself.
