ART: zanzarino (Modified by willng3) IDEA: willng3 NOTES: As apposed to Adrenaline which causes increased heart rate and restlessness among other things, Adenosine is a neurotransmitter believed to be responsible for promoting sleep.  The logic behind this name and the effect is that Adenosine causes the player to become drowsy, making them unable to focus on the spell they want to cast until its effects wear off.  The healing is associated with the player falling asleep after their turn ends, allowing themselves to recover a bit. I wanted to propose this card for a few reasons.  Firstly, it counteracts Life's vulnerability to Spells while still providing some form of benefit to the opponent.  This allows the user to set up a bit for Life's creatures to do what they were made to do, which currently can be very difficult at times.  Because this spell does not disallow the use of creature abilities or permanents nor does it prevent them from being played, I believe the effect is strong, but won't break the game.  However, I do believe that anything above 2 turns without stacking is a bit too much.  This spell also has a lesser, but still viable use as a very watered-down Shard of Sacrifice for the user (incidentally, it also counters that card which was honestly completely unintentional). Adenosine can target either player.  It can stack (meaning the spell disabling AND the HP gain are added for each additional use), but note that you cannot use it multiple times against yourself since the first use would disable the rest (it is a spell, after all). It refers to the inability to play spells as well as healing the player 10HP each turn.  I had also envisioned it having its own graphic effect when played which would make the "Drowsiness" evident.

It's not like Life has that many spells to play to begin with.  It's great to prevent rapid chaining though.  I just may re-defect to Life if this keeps up.

Uploaded artwork.  I'll keep searching for something that doesn't look absolutely ridiculous, but until then if anyone finds anything that fits the art, I'm open to just about anything.

"cant cast spells" sounds like what silence *should* have been, good mechanic.  the healing effect makes sense, but its a 'meh' portion of the card

Is the healing on this really necessary? There's a lot of decks that don't really use spells (and it seems like negating spell casting is the purpose of this card). So, If I didn't need to use spells, and my opponent wasn't using spells, I'd just end up using this as a "heal myself" card - which I think life has plenty of already. I really like the negating spell casting idea though.

in that example, if the healing wasn't there, you'd have a useless card.  I'm not sure why you would rather be in a position where a card is totally useless.

If an opponent's deck is set up so that I have a few useless cards, so be it. That happens from time to time. I just don't really like the idea of a Life deck having another 120 points of healing power to go along with Heals, Druidic Staff, and Empathic Bonds.

I really don't think it's too similar to Silence.  The one similarity that they share is that they stop spells from being played (which I will admit is a big part of what Silence does).  Silence is also used to force discarding, serve as soft PC (Dim Shield, Wings)...in my opinion it seems like a weapon to go hand in hand with Fractal more than anything else.  Adenosine on the other hand seems like it would go hand in hand with Mitosis since Mitosis is slower to generate creatures and would thus need more turns of protection.  Whereas Fractal is typically an instant burst of damage and requires a single turn of protection for it to be catastrophic.  I also like the utility of the healing function, to be honest.
I don't see much of an alternative to the card compared to its current form.  I suppose it -might- be possible to change it to where only creatures are unaffected by spells instead, but that doesn't fit the name of the card at all in my opinion.
I figured I might receive some opposition to the idea of this card being similar to Silence, but with cards like Anubis and Turquoise Nymph being completely redundant as well as Quint and Cloak providing a somewhat similar scenario I rationalized that it wouldn't be out of the question.

As for the healing, I feel it's absolutely necessary.  Given that you have cards like Adrenaline and Mitosis in the same Element, a 2 turn negation of spells would not only mean that the creature targeted could not be destroyed by spells, but also that the opponent could not save themselves using their own spells.  This is part of the reason why outright immunity to CC for Life's creatures would be so strong - it has such incredible damage potential.  I'm not so much concerned about Life being given more healing given that even with 1 more source it still wouldn't possess the highest amounts of healing among the 12 Elements - Light and Darkness would still possess more forms of healing even if this card were implemented.
