I'm still wary of the upped version... the unupped should be ok though.
If multiple of these are in play, can the same card get hit by both or will they always pick distinct cards?
If the former then the balance should be ok... if the latter then it may still have balance problems

I think it's a good idea, but somewhat OP. How do you feel about making Denial a triggered ability with some  :darkness cost?

That's a good question. I think that, actually, upgrading from a spell to a permanent would not only be cool and new and unusual, but give the card a much bigger range of use. Gotten out early, it's as good as silence or pest (potentially).  As a spell, it's splash-able and as a weapon can be stolen

^ As a spell, it would be UP compared to silence unless the duration were longer than 1 turn. As a permanent, making the delay longer than 1 turn could become OP... other than that I think it sounds like a pretty slick idea.

This card has SERIOUS problems with it, what happens if you run a deck with 6 of these and 6 animate weapons, your opponent cant play cards past the 4th turn?

At MAX it should be 1 card on the unupgraded and 2 on the upgraded, then I would leave the damage similar, and increase the cost, maybe 5-> 5, but I still think this card would be far too powerful, as someone said, the effect is similar to not being able to play cards due to discord, but discord loses its effect after about 2 turns because it only affects (8 or 9 cant remember) quanta, some of which it starts putting back into the elements that you want.

This card might be better suited, without its damage, as a permanent, which expires after a certain number of turns (2, maybe 3, possibly 5 if you reduce the number of cards), that way you could play 3 of them and lock up your opponent's hand, but it will only last 2-3 turns, that seems much more balanced to me.

If there were 2 oppressions on one side, they could end up selecting some of the same cards, so it would be entirely possible (and often likely) that they together disable 5, or 4, or 3 cards.

Manipulation | Oppression is supposed to be hand interference rather than hand lock. The low number of cards disabled reflects that.

I think the idea is good, but Darkness does NOT need any more denial cards. Remember how each Aether card is fine on its own(setting aside Fractal for now), but together, like SoW+Immortal or Psiontal or Lobo+Dime Shield, they make the most complained about element? The idea is cool, although I am semi-opposed to multiple weapons per element, but it would push Darkness domination or denial decks over the top. And that would be bad for balance.
There is a darkness inside every person. The only difference is how long it takes to come out.

I would like it better with a 3 turn timer (like dims and cloak). In that case it would be ok with me  if you made everything 1 better (more dmg, less quanta cost, more temporary denial). might make Aw + fractal a thing.
I can already imagine the frustration this causes if it disables deflagration and some key cards; it's also a hard counter to most OTKs.
