What if you were to remove the opponents involvement entirely. If the creature is killed by any source, your creatures gain +1/+1   -  +2/+2

Targeting it yourself would allow you to activate the ability easier, and I can't imagine that would make it OP.

Better I guess. Overall it just doesn't seem good enough in general. I can't think of any deck to really use this in. I mean it might improve a life rush, but I'm not even sure of that.

I guess you could run a lot of these and sparks and lighting? but it might be a waste of lightning....

That is a very very weird combo that would be very hard to pull off. If your opponent doesn't have any CC, there are better decks to take advantage of that fact.
