Maybe instead of havins a stat boost for the eggs, how about they have an effect on themthat is called nest and is similar to burrow; they cannot be targeted. This effect is removed if the destiny bird is killed.

that is a pretty good idea... i could probably just say "Lay a Fate egg, it enters burrowed."   Although, that is more of a weakness of fate egg than this card... Is it cool to still be changing the card at this point, or is it supposed to be in its final form once its in the crucible?

Not really, mitosis requires a duo, as well as costing more.
