I decided I wanted to make a fun mono deck with fire spirits.  It's neither awesome nor awful against AI3.  Might be nice in PvP1.

How exactly is the deck good?
Rage potions seem like it can be used as creature killers, but fire pendulums?

Those are there in case the opponent is using Earthquake.  If you have 1 Burning Pillar and 2 Fire Pendulums on the field then Earthquake will only destroy a maximum of 2 versus 3 of you were using only Pillars.  Fortunately Pendulums act the exact same as a Pillar when they match the mark.

What do you lose if not?  ;)
Spreading Pillars/Pendulums is an often used tactic..


For deck suggestions, you would really need to exchange the Fire Bolts for some other creatueres (Dragons preferably) - becuase you will suck up the quanta into the Grow-sink anyways, for the Bolts to do full potential damage 8)

just playing the devil's advocate here.
Steals are more likely to target other permanents (shields, weapons, shards, etc.) close to 99% of the time. Until they precisely know that you have no non-pillar/pend permanents in your deck, they are going to wait until you bring out something more juicy to steal.

in this type of deck it should be immediately apparent that its a simple fire spirit rush from turn 3 or so.

Not really.  Using Fire Shields and Fahrenheit would still be fair game.

Yes and if I was playing against this deck and saw the number of Pends and Pillars played on the first turn I would be much more afraid of my opponent playing a Fire Shield or a Fahrenheit and would instead hold that Steal until that card was played.  And let's be honest, which is worse:  Having your quanta production be reduced by 3 each turn (Earthquake) or having your opponent's quanta increase by an average of 1/2 each turn (Steal).  And let's not forget the fact that 4 quanta would be spent stealing that one Pendulum which would consequently require 8 turns to replace that quanta spent with that Pendulum you just stole.  It's been done like this in countless decks for a reason:  Pend/Pillar split is just better, m'kay?
