would changing the mark  :darkness --> :gravity then switching pends help? it seems that the FG might get stuck with a lot
of extra  :darkness (from pends + 3x mark + pests)

*EDIT* ever tried using pillars instead of pends?

Yup -- unfortunately Overdrive seems to be a bit too complicated for it. xD I've already seen the AI spend its precious :earth on burrowing and buffing instead of Earthquakes...
