Nerf or Buff? Featured FG: Serket https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=26164.msg332410#msg332410
« on: May 12, 2011, 09:27:17 pm »
Going down the alphabet, every week a different FG will be featured to be Nerfed/Buffed (both options will always be up due to the medium FG's)... Some FG need to be changed a little, although for some that I feel should not be changed others disagree... For every FG I will put cards that work well against him imo. Add more if you think it's needed.

First week: Akebono

Description:
Deck: (remember 2X)

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
6rs 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 744 746 746 748 748 748 748 748 748 74a 74c 74i 74g 74g 74i 74i 74i

He starts aggressively by playing his indestructible Massive Dragons, and uses Overdrive to make them into a growing menace. His Armagios and Tower Shield nullifies the damage the opponent deals, and even if the opponent has a shields up, he owns Unstoppables and more importantly, Chimeras to bypass the puny defenses. Most of the time Chimera comes in when your shield blocks damage that will otherwise kill you, because it negates it and will kill you.

Counters Cards:

Liquid Shadow
Effect: The target creature is poisoned and gains the vampire ability. Previous skills are removed.

Almost made for this FG when combined with Antimatter, as it gets rid of his Overdrive and turns his own powers against him.

Antimatter
Effect: Invert the attack power of the target creature (the creature inflicts heals instead of damage).

Can put all the time spent into overdriving his Creatures to waste and be used against him. Works especially well Late as it'll take a while before the attack passes 0 again.

Reverse Time/Rewind
Effect: The target creature becomes the first card of the creature owner’s deck

Eternity
Effect: :time :time :time Put a creature back in its owner’s deck.

These cards make his Overdrives and Unstoppables essentially useless, and he's pretty much done for if you put him in a 2X Eternity Lock, or even one Eternity.

Sundial
Effect: Stasis: creatures do not attack for 1 turn
:light Hasten - Draw a card from your deck

Since he has no Permanent Control he can't do anything about this, and it's a good way to secure your defenses

Ice Shield/Permafrost Shield
Effect: Shield: Damage dealt to you from physical damage sources is reduced by 1(unupped) l 2 (upped). Attacking creatures might freeze

Obviously Momentums/Chimera's make this a dead card, but if he doesn't get it, this can stall the heck out of him. Plus it gives the creature an extra 9 attack for the creature (Overdrive +3/-1 each turn, frozen for 3 turns) making it even better to Antimatter.

This should be interesting to go through.

As for Akebono specifically, I think he's fine the way it is. The deck is sturdy enough to provide a challenge to a decent variety of decks, but not so overpowering that it can't be beaten.

Looking forward to more of these. For Akebono though, I agree with both of the above -- there's no real need to make changes. BTW why is this poll multiple choice? You should only be able to select one right?

I like Akebono as is: the FG is interesting to face, but not too challenging with the right deck.

Now, if we wanted to make Akebono tougher...Trebuchets would do the trick.

Week 2: Chaos Lord

Description:

(2X)
Code: [Select]
6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6tt 6tv 6u0 6u0 6u1 6u1 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u4 6u4 6u4 6u5 6u6 6u6 6u6 6u6 74a 7dm 7gn 7jp 7jp 7jp 7jp 7jp 7jp 7t9
Completely dependent on luck, he can be incredibly dangerous if his mutations go right for him. His strategy is to play his Ray of Lights, mutate them, and mutate them again with Druids depending on the situation. Late in the game, his dissapation field is dangerous if you have no permanent control and have very little damage as his quanta supply increases each turn. Just from playing all his Quantum cards (not counting increase throughout game) 10*3=30 10*1=10 12*12=144, so in total he will have 184 quanta just from playing his quanta cards, without counting how much his towers and mark give him, meaning he could have several lives depending on how you look at it. He has some CC with 2 steals and 2 explosions, though it can get ridiculous if he gets a mutation with steal/destroy. He also has QC with his discord. Ultimately though, if you have a way to stop his RoLs he can be beaten easily.

Counter Cards:

Steal/Improved Steal

Effect: Steal a permanent

Mainly is to be used on Dissipation Shield, can break his heart if you're using a rainbow :))

Maxwell's Demon

Effect: :entropy :entropy: Paradox: Kills the target creature if its attack is higher than its defence, can kill almost everything he brings out besides Lycanths, and majority of mutations have high attack power

Deflagration/Explosion

Effect: Destroy the Target Permanent

To be used on his Dissipation Shield to crush his attempts to stall you

Fire Shield/Fire Buckler

Effect: Shield: 1 damage is dealt to any attacking creature

Instantly wipes out his Rols and Werewolves (before they evolve) unless he buffs them

Otyughs

Effect: :gravity Devour: Swallow a smaller (less HP’s) creature and gain +1/+1

An early one pretty much seals the deal, as you block out his Rols AND his Fallen Druids
Results:
Nerf: 7
Buff: 4
Leave him as he is: 14
Too random for justified answer: 15

more counters.

explosion/steal - wrecks his dissipation field. That can really hurt him in his attempts to stall you to death/deckout.

general brute force - not a card, but there's only a limited amount of creatures he can deal with

PS. Title needs changing.

First, change the title TFO to match the current FG.  Second, I really like this thread and its idea.  Third, keep him as he is.  He is really hit or miss, if he's hit its almost impossible to beat him, and when its miss, you can't really lose.  In my mind, if a FG is 50/50, keep him the same.

Edit: Didn't see the fourth choice.  In that case, definitely the last one, for reasons above.

I'll trust the words of vets, but I do think a minor nerf might make Chaos Lord more playable even with the 50/50 chance of an easy game. Namely, take out a couple of Entropy Towers -- two (four) could be enough to make a difference. My reasoning is he's got 40 Towers right now, that's more than enough in the late game when he usually gets tough. It could also potentially slow him down or even make Dissipation Field easier to break through.

I wouldn't mind nerfing CL a bit--getting rid of the Imp. Steals and Explosions, so that it has to rely on a lucky mutant for PC.

When I'm feeling masochistic, though, adding PAs and BEs to Chaos Lord would make things more interesting...
