Title: 5-3: Go to Nyx!
Post by: Espithel on November 23, 2015, 01:05:14 am
It's been done this late because doing updates on Wednesdays are weird.

I would take a stab at their economy too if it wasn't so sad.

Welcome to the Weekly Card Design Challenge! Each week, the Curators will host a card design challenge with a certain theme or gimmick; for the rest of the week, your goal is to design the best card you can that works with the challenge! Once that week is up, a new weekly challenge will start and the current challenge will go into the Voting Phase! The winners of each poll will be awarded points; your current score can be found on the Monthly Leaderboard (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/exhibition-hall/card-designer-leaderboard/)!

Each month, the top 1-3 players on the Monthly Leaderboard will get a cool award icon, depending on the number of people that participated.

Amount of peoplePoints given/scored
31 point for first.
4-62 points for first, 1 point for second.
7-83 points for first, 2 second, 1 third. 7 gives 2 votes.
9-114 points for first, 3 second, 2 third, 1 fourth.
12-135 for first, 4 2nd, 3 3rd, 2 4th, 1 5th. 12 gives 3 votes.
14-166 for first, 5 2nd, 4 3rd, 3 4th, 2 5th, 1 6th.

BONUS: Being the final challenge of a month, ChotM's give two more points to anyone who would get points!

This week's challenge is to Make a card based off of greek mythology!

http://www.greekmythology.com/ For reference.
It's simple. Just find a greek myth, make a card around it, and give us that card. I would recommend referencing what you're based the card off of in the notes.
Your card can be judged on how accurately it represents the myth. Keep this in mind.

Don't put art in your card. Don't submit more than one card. Submit the upgraded and unupgraded.
Submit your ideas in this thread - whether you make a separate thread for your card idea for Cygnia is up to you.

We are in the Voting Phase! There are people who wonder if Prometheus and promiscuous are similar. They are not. Good luck!

Somewhat of a spinoff of an earlier card idea I made. This card is focused more on allowing :fire to play any weapon it wants rather than creating new weapons.

This cad allows a player to play a weapon from their hand using :fire quanta instead of the normal cost. The weapon also gains an attack damage boost in the process.

For players that have :air quanta available, any weapon that would get replaced in the process is animated instead.

Between this and animate weapon, players can play up to 12 weapons as creatures. Moreover, this should make :fire :air based 'weapon bows' very feasible.

NOTES: - THIS IS ONLY ONE CARD SUBMISSION, one transforms into the other

- There can only be one of these on the field at a time, (So no having one Themis and one Nemesis at the same time)

- Scales of Themis applies to ALL creatures on field including yours. It DOES NOT delay creatures, creatures can still use abilities, they just cannot attack.
- When transformed into Nemesis, it does NOT consume :light, only in its Themis form.

- You cannot have Nemesis in your hand or deck (cannot have 12 [6 of each form] of these in a deck) hence the "null" cost on Nemesis.
It ALWAYS starts out as Themis. (even if it gets salvaged) Nemesis can only appear on the field.

- If you run out of :light in Themis form, it is destroyed.

- Themis upgraded has increased upkeep cost but less play cost, essentially for the first turn it has 1 less quanta investment cost and first 2 turns it has equal :light investment before transformation, after that the :light investment increases over the unupped.

- Nemesis form upped has 1 less :light cost to transform back into Themis to accomodate the increased upkeep of upgraded Themis.
but Themis transformation cost of :fire :fire remains the same in both.
- Killing creatures costs YOUR HP = to the ORIGINAL hp of the creature not the state it was in before dying.

ex: If opponent kills my Crusader, it had 5 hp originally though it may have been damaged earlier by 2 damage, having 3 hp left. Opponent/killer still pays 5 hp out of their own HP to kill it.

Catapulting big creatures like Armagios does not/should not count (too strong against gravity catapult users otherwise)
I am not sure balance wise for Immolation whether it should or shouldn't.

THEME:

Nemesis (http://loveofthegoddess.blogspot.cl/2013/08/nemesis-greek-goddess-of-justice-and.html) is the Greek Goddess of Divine Retribution and Balance. She Balances the happiness and unhappiness of all mortals. She punishes those who take things maliciously, indulge themselves excessively and punishes those accordingly to the gravity of the wrong they have committed, humbling them. She also balances the fortune of mortals as she sees fit, she brings bad fortunes to those with excessively good fortune to reach an equilibrium.

Themis (http://www.theoi.com/Titan/TitanisThemis.html) is the Greek Titan Goddess of Divine Justice/law, natural law and customs.
She instructed mankind in the primal laws of justice and morality, such as the precepts of piety, the rules of hospitality, good governance, conduct of assembly, and pious offerings to the gods.

Both are depicted in various ways, including being blindfolded and handling a sword and/or a set of weighing scales (https://www.google.cl/search?q=scales&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=681&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiWv42No6jJAhXL1R4KHS9ECr8Q_AUIBigB)

When Themis is disregarded in any way :light , Nemesis brings just and wrathful retribution :fire .

Tri Attack is semi-cumulative with Adrenaline. The first 3 attacks via Adrenaline will count to be part of the Tri Attack, but from then on, the first 3 attacks will be done without damage decrease.

One of the best combos with Cerberus is raising its attack, because the attack power will be multiplied by 3.

All creatures, both opponent's and yours are affected by this.
"this turn" means turn of casting and then the opponent's turn afterward. Like Sundials.
For each creature when it attacks a target creature is randomly assigned. It can attack opposing creature, ally or even itself.
The buff to the random creature is added at the time of casting.

Best used in creatureless decks/when the opponent has considerably more creatures.

In this cardy version, you shake the shield and it makes a roar that delays all creatures that hear it.

Creatures that can't hear it:

This is based off the myth of Pandora's box, which held all the worst things in the world. It was originally gifted to the woman Pandora by the god Zeus, hence the  :aether cost(could be  :air or  :light though). Zeus told Pandora never to open it, knowing that her curiosity would increase until she opened it anyway (represented by  :fire, I thought that represented curiosity best).
When she did, it released all the demons evil spirits into the world, sewing chaos and strife into the world (pandemonium and damage). Afterwards, the only thing left in the box was the spirit of hope (minimum light quanta).

It would probably remove invisibility.
If you have multiple, they all activate at once!
Damage happens before pandemonium.

Will this tri attack function like adrenaline w.r.t. status effect duration, or more importantly, poison?

-if it has this active and strikes a turtle shield, will its second attack remove the delay and allow it to use its 3rd attack to strike a second time?
-Will it take poison damage for each attack?

Lastly, did you factor in the nightfall / eclipse combos?
Unuped + nightfall deals 12 damage per turn.
Upped + eclipse deals 18 damage per turn.

@Flayne
If you use the upped version with PA you basically make it so that creatures are useless as a damage source... so the game ends up being a battle with weapons.

That combo seems a little OP to me... at the very least it would lead to some painful and annoying stall decks.

While a boost to some stall archetypes may not be bad in and of itself, this basically means that they will have to run until deckout... that just seems like it will lead to overly long and drawn out matches... probably wouldn't be too fun to play against, even if it isn't OP.

Thematically I like the concepts though.

I understand your concern, especially considering when light has miracle/sanctuary. However this has already been taken into consideration.

Firstly, it would not be far fetched to say that there are more efficient stall decks than a stall deck that is centered around this card.
For one, the upgraded card is attractive for earlier implementation to the field but has a higher  upkeep cost,
Even if you were to use duo :fire :light (Seraph) or another duo, the upkeep on this card makes the use of PA on it fairly futile simply because

1: summoning creatures with an upkeep of 4 :light (upped) (5 :light whenever you transform back to Themis from Nemesis or more if having a :light using creature on field like Seraph, Leafdragon, etc.) is more difficult than you think. For one, you need at least 4 :light pillars/pens. if you don't already have a :light mark, and that is disregarding the need to actually place :light creatures or :light using creatures (Leaf dragon, seraph, etc) on the field and for another,

2: If you are worried about Miracle, well its fair to say it is impossible to use miracle AND keep Themis on field as Miracle absorbs all :light left, so once you end your turn it is destroyed. Obviously you can replace with another Themis but then again how many are you going to have in your deck without causing card congestion?

3: Even if you only had a limited amount of :light pillars and change to Nemesis to recover :light in order to use it for creature summoning
or Stalling or such, The opponent has that turn or more to deal creature damage and on top of that, once you change back, you are going to use
5 :light on that same turn due to the cost transforming back to Themis.

That upkeep is actually really heavy on a Themis focused stall deck and its efficiency is fairly questionable when compared to other more efficient
(not to mention upkeep-free stall decks) if anything, this would actually deter players from placing this in a :light deck out - stalling deck

4: You can't really justify a stall deck with Themis using a large amount of pillars to cover an upkeep as steep as 4 :light (5 per return to Themis) in a deck as it would again just cause congestion

5: Much less Rainbow decks can't really use Themis as a stall or even make any efficient use of it for that matter like a duo-trio involving :light deck can,
due to its pseudo play cost of 8 :light and its upkeep of 4  :light (5 per return to Themis). (mayyyybe juust maaybe if they employ the use of FFQ or Fire flies &/or RoLs)

6: Just for the exclusive use on Themis, How many PAs are you going to have in your deck without causing card congestion? One needs to consider the probability of drawing both cards in hand earlier or when the time is right while trying to stall with other cards within the deck
+ Pillars/pendulums for the actual upkeep of Themis.

In conclusion, having PA just exclusively for Themis with the intention of making a stall deck around it, is honestly a waste of card space
unless you're going to use it on a card that is actually more worth using PC on (in the eyes of the opponent) like Sanctuary or Fire shield (if Duo :fire :light) or something else.
Scales of Themis was not designed with deckout/Stall decks in mind (Hence the steep upkeep cost), but rather its counter-part Scales of Nemesis as the main feature of the card which aims to punish your opponent for cc-ing your creatures especially if they initially had decent hp (whether mono or duo or more :light)

Nemesis toggle back into Themis is to give you the option of sacrificing your attack turn in order to cc creatures without getting yourself hurt (despite being :light and being able to heal back that damage fairly easily if you were to cc enemy creatures while in Nemesis)

Cerberus would be vicious in an aether deck with PU and / or quint + SoW.

I didn't take cards into consideration yet, only possible attack bonuses. (+1, +2, +3, etc.)

SoW + PU sounds vicious indeed, but do you think it would be OP? Originally I wanted Tri Attack to cost 2 :death, but then I thought it might not be worth it.

And yes, tri attack would work similarly as adrenaline: the first attack would hit procrastination and would get delayed, but then the second released it and the third attack hits procrastination and gets delayed again. Each attack activates poison damage/purify healing.

@Flayne
I could see reasonably including at least 3 PA's in a deck
-1 for themis
-1 for pillars
-1+ for a sanctuary(ies).

After that you would run morning star for damage output and mirror shield to handle possible spell damage based counters.
You could add in miracles and maybe stoneskin or SoD for max HP boost.

It would slowly chew down your opponent while you would be kept safe from creature attacks by themis.
The PA's would keep your permanents safe from PC. Sanctuary would give you the edge in the event of an enemy weapon.

Granted, the upkeep is annoying on themis, but powering the deck off of light pillars and an earth mark is feasible.

This may be less efficient than some stall decks but I think it locks down the damage tighter than most. Essentially, you have an infinite sundial going... Its like a dim shield on crack!
Even with the upkeep, I think its too strong.

@OdinVanguard,

While in theory this could go exactly as you have put it,
with all due respect there are flaws that are immediately visible:

What you describe is the maximum potential of the Themis centric stall deck.

However as with all stall decks they follow a common rule,
They all require time and luck to set up properly, if they cannot set it up on time and with the appropriate quantity/cards,
It obviously can bring about negative results to the user, resulting in their loss.

Your version of a Themis centric  stall deck involves the need of several cards,
(At least the one you presented)
First of all,

- You need at least 4-5 pillars (assuming you have a mark other than :light )
- PA for the pillars
- secondly Themis
- PA for Themis
- Then I need my source of healing Vs Weapons
(sanctuary)
- and along with that a third PA
- Morning Glory
- Reflective shield
- Potentially pendulums for Stone skin, needs a decent
Amount of :earth to be of use. :Earth mark alone isnt enough.
- And hey, why not, lets slap a Fourth PA for the pendulums
- Miracle, And as i said, as soon as you use Miracle, Themis is dead along with its PC immunity
Unless you want to transform it first... Except you need :fire to do so:

- Source of :fire for Protecting Themis from Miracle
Or - have 2 more PAs (6 in total now, max.) to replace the Themis that is destroyed
Everytime I use miracle.

Etc...

That setup... Is massive and is gonna hit a lot of bumps making it extremely difficult to execute perfectly and reach the maximum potential you describe, especially if you're versing :darkness (pest, steal) :earth ( earthquake, Pulverizer) :gravity (blackhole) :water (trident though also :earth, Chrysaora), :fire (explosions) :death (Arsenic, Deadly poison) etc...

Secondly: You're assuming :light couldn't already do this effectively
before Themis existence.
If anything, it is better NOT to use Themis in a :light stall deck because of the heavy upkeep that places pressure on a certain type of stall deck that worked perfectly fine until a new center (or important) card with a (heavy) form of upkeep was introduced to over-complicate what was supposed to be simpler and easier.

Not to mention the card space that Themis and the extra PAs occupy, possibly throwing the whole deck off balance due to affecting the probability of drawing the cards necessary.

See where I'm going?

With all due respect I don't see this being even near as overly strong as you do

And Lets face it:

ANY deck including stall decks has a Maximum potential.
I could describe the maximum potential of having a centric Dim shields + PA deck
In a duo of :earth :aether.
Does that make Dim shields op? Not really (Though the sight of one on my opponents side repulses me)
though historically many people considered both Dim and PA, OP.
[Not to mention new players using Mono-Aether alone is already a nuisance to even some experienced players]
(Yes I got that from the "thank you competition thread" and it made me laugh, but nevertheless its true in some aspects)

In the end they weren't OP, individually or together, Because?
Not easy to Set-up / too situational, again, That's right, it is very situational and it can be very difficult to set up such a stall to its maximum potential or alternatively, to its perfection.

From what I can see, this card is not an exception.

EDIT: @Treldon, Your card has a typo,Creaturers fight each other instead... -> Creatures.

In this cardy version, you shake the shield and it makes a roar that delays all creatures that hear it.

Creatures that can't hear it:
- Burrowed creatures
- Creatures hiding from the sound (ones that it delayed last turn)

So basically we're talking Procrastination with a little extra control and some DR

Did you try clicking on "save PNG."
Then going directly to imgur website > upload images > browse computer?
Then you right click on the uploaded image and click "copy image url"

Then paste image url on the format that comes when you click (on card image builder) post to forums (or the button that takes you the page before that)
