Welcome to the Weekly Card Design Challenge! Each week, the Curators will host a card design challenge with a certain theme or gimmick; for the rest of the week, your goal is to design the best card you can that works with the challenge! Once that week is up, a new weekly challenge will start and the current challenge will go into the Voting Phase! The winners of each poll will be awarded points; your current score can be found on the Monthly Leaderboard!

Each month, the top 1-3 players on the Monthly Leaderboard will get a cool award icon, depending on the number of people that participated.

I proposed this guy for openEtG a while ago. Its in there now and is surprising well balanced.

The ability lasts until its owner's next turn. It can consume the owner's spells as well, so that could be used to buff it in a pinch.

In open EtG it only has immunity to spell damage, so this guy might be a little on the strong side with full immunity.

This card, as long as at least one is in play, essentially randomises their effects. You might click Rage Potion, try to select your target, then realise that you've played Precognition. Woops.

The unupped card affects both opponents, upped affects only you.

The unupped is intended to speed up your deck, while the upgraded is intended as anti-CC that can backfire if your opponent is willing to spend his buffs on you.

I think it's easier to understand what I mean with a bunch of examples

  • Lightning causes no Attack changes and reduces HP by 5. One unnuped makes the HP reduction 6 and the upped buffs HP by 5.
  • Blessing is +3|+3. The unupped changes this to +4|+4. The upgraded changes it to -3|-3.
  • Rage pot is +5|-5. The unupped changes it to +6|-6, the upgraded changes it to -5|+5.
  • The unupped makes BB increase HP by 21 and the upgraded turns your opponent's BB into (nearly) instakill cards.
  • If a creature has attack A, antimatter gives -2A|+0. The unupped changes this accordingly (will depend if you are antimattering an antimattered creature), while the upgraded makes your opponent's antimatters triple attack.
  • Abilities like 'snipe', 'guard', 'acceleration' are also affected, but things like 'infect' or Plague are not.
  • Player HPs are affected. This includes spells like miracle and heal, as well as permanent abilities like SoV, SoG, druid staff and creature abilities like voodoo, vampire and psion. This does not affect creatures with mommentum, as the ability only lets you pass through shields. Attacking is not an ability :P

Unique = doesn't stack (mainly because of AoE for the unupped and because it makes no sense imo for the upped). You can still use the unupped and upped together, as they never deal with the same spells/abilities.

Finally, when action and reaction deal with the same spells (one player has action, the other has reaction) then action goes first (mostly for thematic reasons).

I have a feeling the complexity of this one got a bit out of hand  :P

@CleanOnion, Thats a very amusing mechanic... a little niche but I really like the potential for thematics there... Since you are focused on alchemy, what do you think of having it be "unstable reagents" or "tainted reagents" or "contaminated reagents" instead?

It reminds me of when I took a lab practical as an undergrad where somebody accidentally contaminated one of the reagent jar and it messed up the test for half the class.

How would the reflection be resolved? I.e. would it hit random creatures or would the user pick a target?

@TiankPL ... it seems a little odd to have acceleration and overdrive affected. The damage is actually being done by the ability the spell creates but not by the spell itself... unlike rage potion which does directly apply damage.
... This would be very potent with AoE effects. It might be a little OP with psions.

@andretimpa would this apply to Miracle? The auto EM would certainly be popular... also, I'm assuming SoV would be affected as well, correct? That would be a nice side buff I think. I guess the upped version would act as a hard counter as well.
If you have action in play and your opponent has reaction, what is the order of effect?
Lastly, since psions do "spell damage" would action affect them as well?

Interesting, but doesn't seem real useful. It would be interesting if it could push that status / ability onto other creatures though... Sort of a pseudo rewind then.

Interesting. Reminds me a little of the card "ricochet" that was posted a while back. I assume by "go astray" that some kind of random targeting would happen, correct? Or did you have something more dramatic in mind?

Some of these are really cool this time around... I like timpa's a lot, but it could be a bit confusing to figure out.
TiankPL's seems very similar as well. I think timpa's "unique" idea is good though since it limits psion abuse which TiankPL's might have problems with.

I was only thinking about HP changes affecting creatures. I'll think a bit if it would remain balanced if players HPs are affected. I like the idea of nerfing psions/SoW by turning reaction into a mass antimatter for them.

Action goes first, mostly because of theme :P

As mentioned in notes:
