In Yesterday's chat session, Sir Valimont was interested (
) in the decision process that let to this rounds deck choices. In had to run, so I couldn't participate in the discussion, so here's a couple explanations from me:
Fire: Poison stall was an obvious choice as it has a very good chance against all but one of their unupped decks. The other one was more difficult. Scrambled Shriekers was what we ended up with as it crushes all of their stalls (don't listen to jmdt the kong noobie, I don't think their wings deck would have fared any better), while it's probably the underdog against their rainbows but not hopeless, as those rainbow-mirrors tend to be pretty luck-based (who draws more Novas).
Darkness: Both decks were built mostly with their NovaGraboids deck in mind, but as both are also fine decks in a vacuum, they are also good when they wouldn't play them. This turned out nicely, although the Wings deck could have gotten into difficulties against the Fractal-Devourer deck, if Owl's Eye doesn't show up.
Water: Discord-BH is good against both a miracle stall and a bad rainbow, and I know that we already lost against the latter with Discord-BH, but that was definitely a fluke of bad luck. Also I am very happy that we didn't play Entropy-Life aka. I-fold-against-quinted-Toadfish-deck.
Aether: I pretty sure that our Nova Darkness deck would have crushed anything Aether could have delivered. Apparently they saw that coming and made the correct move: Suicide.
Air: Well, they have an Air-Fire deck that would've had a good chance. Other than that we felt good.
Life: Those guys had fielded two NovaGraboid decks last round, and other Elements like using those against us, because of their resistance against Discord. So using Scrambled Shriekers against them, like Vali suggested, is a complete no-go, as this is exactly where you don't want to position them. Scrambled Shriekers will rip any non-rainbow deck, but it has max. 50% against other rainbows, or less because Discord is so unspectacular. Entropy-Aether with 6 Lightnings however is an excellent choice against that deck, as it does very little when you just kill all their guys. The two Quints would have helped against their Fire Stall. Of course, I did not see the DimShield stall coming. Should we have expected that? Maybe.
Light: The only rainbows they used last round was a really bad Novabow and a mediocre Immo-Phoenix. So Scrambled Shriekers seemed like a reasonable choice against them. I didn't anticipate them to salvage back (or even save up??) a NovaGraboid deck. My bad.
