Is it just me or does it seem like an abomination always mutates into another abomination--it never dies or becomes a mutant if you try it again (with the fallen elf)?
It will.  You can test these things in the trainer.
Actually after two mutations you have:

25% Abomination
19% Death
36% Mutant
20% Mutant Abomination

I think as a 3/4 this card would be too good, especially since a rain of fire would most likely provide it with a host of fodder to mutate

I always thought it was crazy for it costing 100 because its ability mutate itself only...

Side Note: Darkness would be better if its cost wasnt so expensive :(

ahhh, Fallen Druids just got groovier, though I don't think we really can speak of a buff here. For sure, Guard/Mitosis-Mutants are awesome, but a greater ability-pool also means less chance for steal or destroy (which both are incredibly good). Well, I like it, since it also means less weak-mutants under a quint.   :))

Btw. I just had a fallen druid out, accompanied by three mitosis-mutants: a bone-dragon mitosis mutant, a devourer-mutant and best of all: a burrowed graboid mitosis mutant!
HAHAHAHA  ;D

Though the latter sometimes doesn't really work as it's supposed to (unless I just don't get it, which is possible too, hehe). For example I get a 7/4 guard-mutant and use it's ability on a 3/3 creature. I'd expect that the creature get's destroyed thanks to the guard ability (or bigger creatures get damaged) but sometimes this doesn't work and the creature only get's delayed for a turn while taking no damage at all.

That's because the 3|3 creature is airborne. Guard doesn't attack airborne creatures, it'll only delays them.

I like when my opponent plays this card and I just have a bunch of weak creatures on my side. Sometimes my opponent mutated my creatures with it and it often turns out to be an advantage for me.  :P
My idealized elements cycle:
Water -> Fire -> Air -> Earth -> Lightning -> Metal -> Light -> Darkness -> Wood -> Water
